Just a few minutes walk from Kintetsu Nara Station towards Todajii, Kofukuji is a worthwhile stop even though one of it’s main halls is under reconstruction. The five storied pagoda is the crown jewel of the temple, looking really old but beautifully designed. I didn't enter the museum but a stroll around the grounds is nice and quiet. Just on the edge of Nara Park, scatterings of tame deer wander around, and it’s possible to just walk up to one and take photos.

Went here on a sunny day with some friends. Nice place to walk through on your way to Todai-Ji and the park.

We started the entrance to the park by the Kofukuji site. The 3 Stories Sanjo-dori pagoda attract first your attention. Great construction who stricted its beauty against the blue sky, even looking dramatic against a darker sky (for us passing by) .
The complex included the temple and the museum. The combined entrance fee to go inside the buildings is Y800. May be a little pricy.

You can't go inside it though. That's not a problem however because those of us who have gone inside other pagodas know the best thing about them is the outside.
One of the halls is being renovated right now and you can't enter.
You might as well stop by on your way home.

Pagodas are very attractive and old and the temple on the grounds is nice too. Its free which is rare in Japan and conveniently located close to all the other sites around Nara park
