This is a beautiful old restored house run by a very enthusiatic and friendly host who has herself travelled a lot. We stayed only 1 night but the welcome was warm and the place was lovely with new bathrooms and spotlesly clean. We left some glasses behind by mistake and she was kind enough to post them to our next hotel immediately....a very warm welcome and a lovely place!

Lovely renovated traditional Machiya house, with the most hospitable of host. I won't repeat the praise other reviewers have heaped, but you really shouldn't miss it if got a night to spend in Nara, which I highly recommend as it's such a nice little city that's much more approachable than Kyoto in many ways.

Guesthouse Sakuraya was lovely. We had a spacious room that was clean and comfortable. Kayoko is a great host - she made us feel right at home and made us some delicious Japanese breakfasts too. The location is great for visiting the main Nara sights, and also for exploring Naramachi. Really close to good restaurants too. We can't recommend highly enough!

We stayed one night at this lovely little guesthouse in Nara. The host Kayoko-San is so welcoming and thoughtful. The guesthouse has 3 traditional Japanese rooms but it has been recently renovated so the facilities are lovely, clean and modern- but still managing to keep a very traditional japanese feel. The rooms face onto a beautiful Japanese garden and breakfast is in a lovely little room facing onto the garden. The room includes a delicious Japanese or western breakfast- which for me was a welcome relief after 2 weeks of Japanese breakfasts. Black tea and milk and toast made my day!! The guesthouse is in a great location - only 15 mins walk to the giant Buddha and the deer park and nestled in amongst some very trendy little Japanese shops and cafes. Loved staying here- it was perfect!

Stayed the one night while in Nara and enjoyed the experience immensely. Kayoko was the perfect host. She was so friendly and happy to suggest restaurants and help with any questions. The accommodation was very comfortable and the Japanese breakfast was even better. Would recommend staying here to anyone for a pleasant change from the usual hotel.

My friend and I visited Sakuraya in late March while Nara was still under 15°C. Actually It's nice experience to stay in traditional Japanese house, though you felt a bit chilled when walking to the toilet on the real wood floor. “Clean, cozy and comfort" is what I can describe in three words.

Kuwahara-san is very friendly and sweet. Her English is very well. I do love Kotatsu table (heater table for winter)in the living room but I have to say that the best of this place is her warm-welcome heart. It was pity that we stayed here only one night. We wish next time we had longer...

Our visit to Nara was a highlight of our trip to Japan and staying with Kayoko made it just delightful. Her guesthouse is beautifully crafted and the attention to detail was delightful and artistic. We stayed here for two nights and wish we had longer. Kayoko made sure we were comfortable and was very helpful in helping us plan what to see both while in Nara as well as in the next city we went to. Definately give Nara at least on night if not more on your visit to Japan. Do not hesitate to stay here. It is the type of place that you will remember for a long time.
