I stayed one night in the double bunk room by myself. 1. Super clean 2. Near Nara train station and walkable distance to most attractions 3. Get anything you'll need as a backpacker - kitchen, free internet, fully equipped room (hairdryer, high quality shower gel & shampoo) 4. No problem with sound insulation at all. My room is super quiet. 5. Beautiful modern decoration with a sense of Japanese style. 6. Super nice and helpful staff. I had plesant chats with the owner of the place. Whilst browsing the bookshelves by the reception for some touring idea, the owner gave me some books in Chinese that were really helpful. They have created useful map around the guest house as well, with places to eat, tour as well as public bathing. To sum up - I love it.

Like:

Location is right by the train station and there is the only large supermarket in Nara (that we know of) right there within a five minute walk.

It’s a newer small hotel that has computers with interne, TV (No international channels), kitchen (with all you need for cooking) and eating area, lots of books (mostly manga both in Japanese and English).

Staff that speaks good English, friendly and very helpful (even had laundry detergent we used at the Laundromat that is very close by, and provided maps and other travel information.

Rooms: Bunk beds, TV, and bathroom with shower and hi-tech toilet. Small, but very space efficient. The shower had excellent water pressure; the sink was tiny, but doable.

Clean, but not perfect, as we found a few hairs on the floor that were not ours.

Dislike:

Location – though convenient to go in and out of Nara and shopping, it is about a 25-30 minute walk to main attractions such as the deer park.

Sound insulation was terrible. We had a family staying right next to us, who woke up one of us who normally can sleep through anything. Plus even while the noise is downstairs it sounded like it was right outside the door.

One of the beds had a memory foam pad, and another soft pad on top of it, but it managed to feel as if there was no padding at all. It was very uncomfortable and made my back and neck sore.

If it wouldn't be for us getting bad sleep, then we'd definitely rate it very good or excellent.

It is spotlessly clean, in easy walking distance from JR Nara station, and in a pleasant walk away from all of Nara's major attractions. I stayed in the Japanese style tatami room, it is small, but all conveniences one could wish for were available. It is perfect for a single person or a couple. The managers can communicate well in English and are gracious and welcoming. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best things I have seen in my maiden Japan visit. The room that we stayed in (one bed with two bunks, 203) may not be more than 9'X9'. We (My wife, five year old daughter and myself) were traveling with a lot of BIG bags and we did not have any trouble whatsoever in this hotel. The design of the room is very smart. It has many usable spaces. The bed is wide enough that my wife could share it with our daughter.
Above all, Kazu, the hotel owner, is perhaps the best part of this hotel. He is here from 8:00 AM to10:00 PM and will greet you with a broad smile every time he sees you. We have made all sorts of odd requests and he helped us happily. The hotel has a few umbrellas which became our lifeline during our stay as it rained for two days here. We took full advantage of the small kitchenette in the hotel. We would buy bread, sausages, eggs, ready made meals etc. from the Max Valu supermarket (on the ground floor of Nara JR station, 5 minutes from the hotel) and warm/prepare it in the kitchen. This saved us a lot of money and the agony of going out for dinner when it is raining. There is also tea/coffee throughout the day for free. The internet is free and very fast.
This hotel is just too good.

The Japanese style room was very clean however very small.
The service was exceptional.
The price was very good.
The location is very accessible. Just a few minutes walk from the train and bus station and close to a few restaurants and bars.

This was the most fun and enjoyable place we stayed during our trip to Japan. It's 5 minutes walk from the JR station, super easy to find. The owner really made this place. Welcomed us as though we'd been friends. Super speedy internet in the whole place. We had a "double bunk room" which sleeps 4 but there were only the 3 of us. Spotlessly clean, with an amazing bathroom (plus a brand-new techno toilet hehe). It cost us GBP 68 for 1 night for 3 people, so that's GBP 23 each - bargain for somewhere clean, comfy, friendly and accessible.

The owner has some push bikes to rent, which I'd say is an absolute must whilst you're there as Nara is a bit hilly and things are a bit spread out. Contact the owner before your stay to reserve. He's got a little kitchen/communal area in reception, where you can sit and talk to other people also staying there. Or if you're happy in your room, they're comfy enough to spend some time in.

We will absolutely be returning here again if/when we go back to Nara!

Room Tip: Hire the bikes from the owner - such a fun and enjoyable way to get around Nara.

For the price, by far the best place we stayed in Japan. We (family of 4) shared a quad 'bunk room'. Yes, it's small - but perfectly fine. When being tourists in an foreign country how much of the day do you spend in a hotel room anyway? Bathroom, room and linen were all squeaky clean, beds were comfortable, everything worked. Friendly greeting at reception. Host was terrific (cannot remember his name).

Nara Komachi is only 5 mins walk from JR Nara, with plenty of eateries (ranging from cheap and cheerful up to more expensive/deluxe) close at hand. Terrific little local mall (no 'big name' outlets - yea!) gives a really good local shopping experience.

Best of all - our two teenagers thought it was great too - that's a big tick for a small guesthouse.

Room Tip: Don't be put off by the small size of the quad rooms. They are fine, with plenty of storage for...
