The mountain is simply beautiful! If you are able, after the Ropeway walk instead of taking the bus! The walk as a bit steep though so it might not be for everyone. But if you think you are up for it, it's very nice! I'd admit, I got a little lost for a while there... But it was fun to find my way around and just walk around. I don't want to say too much, the place is just very beautiful and nice and definitely worth a visit and at least half a day!

Visiting this site was one of our highlights on our trip to Japan. Access is made available by bus ride from Himeji train station. You can purchase a ticket which gives you bus ride and cable car up the mountain. Entrance to site is 500 yen which you pay after cable car. Extra 500 yen gets you bus up to temples or you can walk. We visited when it was snowing and middle of the week. We were the only people on the mountain. Magical experience visiting temples and walking through beautiful forrest. Make this a must do when visiting Japan.

This is a very ancient and pretty temple. It's where The Last Samurai is filmed. Though it's located out of the city, it's extremely worth visiting. But you need to spare a few hours for travelling to this place and for visiting the whole compound which consists of many temples and buildings.

This place is stunningly beautiful. A temple complex set in a densely forested area atop a mountain. It is not as famous as the Himeji Castle, which is a shame because it is simply a wonderful place to look at Japanese temple architecture. It is also relatively quiet, making it an awesome place to take in the sights.
