The falls are impressive, 93m tall. You take an elevator that was originally built in 1930 that goes 100m down sheer bedrock. Viewing platform gives you a fantastic photo op or selfie.

There are a few falls in the area. See them first before you see Kegon Falls. Otherwise they will all pale by comparison.

Nice waterfall, go in the morning for good lighting. I liked Urami Falls better (and it was free). You don't have to take the elevator, but you'll get a better view.

Everyone says: Go to the waterfall! From bus stop 2B at the JR station we caught the bus to the Chuzenjiko Lake bus terminal (about 45 minute journey) from where it is a short walk to the waterfall. Be aware of the warning signs about the monkeys who will take any opportunity to snatch anything they think is food. There are two options to see the waterfall. From the top - Free - viewing platform. Or pay JPY550 to take an elevator 100m down for a full frontal view. Having done the elevator would have been just as happy seeing it from the top. If you are in Nikko for more than a day, explore bus pass options to save money. Combine your visit to the waterfall with a look at Lake Chuzenji. Note where bus drops you off at Chuzenjiko Lake bus terminal is not the same stop to catch the bus back. Ask the driver to point out the return stop before you leave the bus

Of the 48 waterfalls in Nikko, this is the most popular, and after visiting, can understand why. It is a beautiful natural site, and definitely worthwhile visiting while in the Lake Chuzenji area.

As other reviewers have noted, there is a small nominal fee for entry, but given elevator access is offered to the viewing platform, it is understandable that a fee be collected for servicing and maintenance of the elevator.

I've seen better, but worth a visit, nevertheless... near by there are others but these are the best ones.
