While the crowd is essentially tourists, it s not that much of a trap. The menu is simple, but efficient.
Gyozas, Beefball yakitori and the fried noodles are excellent - perfect after a day walking around the temples.

We managed to find this place while escaping from a rain shower, and were so glad we stepped in for a quick lunch! The service was great and prompt, but we still had enough time to look around at all of the gaijin souvenirs that had been left on the place's walls. Really, really cool.

The food here is also pretty good; not exceptional, but nothing we ordered was disappointing. The yakitori was very delicious!

Interesting reading the reviews. Our experience was lovely, cheery service with many smiles and great humour.
Our food was fresh and catered for our family beautifully. The green tea was plentiful, the beef and chicken kebabs, noodles and rice were really tasty, the vegetarian dishes yummy and Mikosan and her friend do remind you of your Grandmother and how they really enjoy it when their family eats a meal.

The interior is great, very creative and people have voted with their pens pinning a myriad of souvenirs, bank notes, business cards and lovely hand drawn messages and drawings about the food, the company they dined with and how we all enjoyed Nikko. Thanks it was what we needed after exploring the temples and shrines in January with cold winds and minus 7 degrees Celcius, a warm comfortable cafe that was fun.

Praised in a leading guidebook, I felt this was a tourist trap offering indifferent food at a slightly inflated price. Significantly, there was not a single ethnic Japanese customer. The yakitori itself was barely cooked; the price should have justified a full bento set, but came with no side dishes and just tap water, not green tea. Sure, it's a fun interior with all the business cards stapled top the walls and ceilings, but the food just isn't what you should get for the money.

Yakitori~ AWESOME
SOBA~ just average
Service~ Thumbs up

we werw so fascinated seeing different cards and memos posted on its walls from people across the globe. I guess more than the food, the uniqueness of the place made dining an experience...
