The above website provides accurate information on where to catch the peak 'koyo' (autumn colour) around Japan. You may want to get your Japanese speaking friend to help out.
Ryuzu Waterfall was peaked during the week of October 16 in 2013. It is about 1 hour 15 minutes from Nikko train station, 20 minutes from Chuzenji onsen station.
The bus stop is located at the final drop (also the most scenic part) of the fall, if time allows, you may want to walk upstream along the well paved walkway. It takes about 25 minutes to walk up to the top of the fall which hits the upper end of the bus route.
There is a small shop at the vista point for snack.
If you are taking the bus, be sure to time yourself for the next bus before walking around.

We were unable to see anything at Kegon Falls due to the heavy fog and therefore made our way to Ryuzu Waterfall.
It was worth everything!
Surprisingly the waterfall was not covered by the fog and we were treated to an amazing sight of beautiful autumn colours. Recommended to take the flight of stairs up as at every point, you are treated to a different view of the fall.

It was busy when we visited but there was still plenty of space to take photos and observe the beginning of the autumn colours. After the falls we walked east along the lake until the boat house and caught the ferry back to the main village.

Nice Sightseeing. I Have visited it 3 times, i included it each time That i Visit Nikko. I recommend to Travel by Car with a GPS as much as possible, so you can Visit moré places like This, away from the Main Shrines And Palace

After leaving Yudaki and walking along the Senjogahara marshland trail for about three hours, Ryuzu Falls was a nice goal. Seeing water falling rejuvenates one after a long hike. The waterfall is rather average in size, but nonetheless, still beautiful. The rest stop is much more commercialized than Yudaki, but it is nice to have food, drink, and omiyage available.
