The Hotel New Yokosuka was our home away from home while visiting Japan. It is a wonderful place to stay when visiting people stationed on the Navy base in Yokosuka. It is within 5 minutes walking distance to the main gate of the Navy base and also very close to many local inexpensive restaurants, bars (the Tijuana Bar being our favorite!) and 2 amazing shopping malls. The hotel is a quick 7 dollar taxi ride to both train stations in the city or approximately a 15 minute walk.
We stayed in the new annex to the Hotel New Yokosuka. I booked the hotel directly through their website. The rooms were clean and large, by any standards, with a bed, desk area and small kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, dishes and stove. There was a large balcony that was nice to stand out on and absorb the sights of the city, but there were no chairs. Since the annex seemed very new, maybe the chairs were still on order. There are grocery stores in the basement of the shopping malls where you can buy any imaginable kind of food/snacks at reasonable prices to keep in the kitchen. There was also this great combination washer/dryer which we used a lot as it was the hot and sweaty season when we were there. The rooms in the main hotel are not condo style like they were in the annex so I can't report on them.
The included breakfast was simple but filling for a long day of sightseeing. You had to walk from the annex to the main hotel for the breakfast but it was only about a 2 minute walk away. Since Yokosuka is a Navy base town, there is a lot of night life, but there are plenty of military personnel patrolling the streets to make sure things don’t get out of hand, so we felt perfectly safe walking around at any time. Given the night life, I was worried that we would be kept awake at night but the rooms were very quiet.
Our only complaint about the hotel is that it took an exhausting amount of time every time we checked back in, since we used it as a home base for exploring the country, but, to be fair, we required three rooms for our large party each time so it was a little complicated. Yokosuka is not really a tourist destination and it did take about an hour to get up to Tokyo which is the hub for the Shinkansen bullet train to explore the rest of the country, but if you are visiting people on the Navy base, and want to explore Japan, this hotel is great!!
