The Redbrick warehouse is a great place to spend an morning or afternoon in Yokohama if you enjoy shopping and eating. Built 100 years ago as a warehouse down on the port, the lovely building has been converted in an almost indoor market of shops and eateries in an industrial style decor. The warehouse has two buildings- one building is longer and has the bulk of the shops and eating establishments and is known as Building number 2. The shorter building was originally the same length but was half destroyed by an earthquake. The shops sell a wide variety of goods including gifts, clothing, cosmetics, shoes, souvenirs, furniture, candles, jewellery and there are also some clever caricature artists who will turn your portrait into a cartoon if you are game and prepared to part with the required cash. You can pretty much eat all knifes of food at the Warehouse at a range of budgets from fast food, pastry shops, to restaurants like the newly opened "GRIP Organic" which is excellent, "Bills" which generally requires a que and the seafood buffet restaurant which is good value on the top floor of the longer building.
Outside the Warehouse there is always some activity going on depending on the season. Right now there are Xmas trees, Xmas themed stalls selling mulled wine and other Xmas food and an ice skating rink. At other times of year there are flower displays and performances.
The closest subway station to Redbrick Warehouse is Nihon Odori Station on the MinatoMirai line. It is in easy walking distance from the CupNoodles Museum and Yamashita Park and overlooks Pier Akarenga.
