A beautiful garden not to be missed in Yokohama. Much beautiful during spring, sakura. Volunteer people are very nice and warm. The green tea is also a must try.

After the hustle and bustle of Yokohama centre, these gardens are an escape for a serene walk, with ancient architecture and breathtaking scenery. I felt like a Japanese princess in a fairytale land.

My Tokyo friends met us at the Yokohama cruise ship terminal and by cab we went there. Yokohama and Tokyo had just had a huge snow storm 2 days before so all was covered with snow slush and water especially on the paths we tracked. Being Canadians we were in full winter gear. Absolutely beautiful the garden, even at this time of year. Trees were starting to come out in bloom with their white and pink flowers. The buildings were absolutely stunning and so perfect. We had a wonderful tea to start where a tea ceremony was performed. Our Japanese friends made it so much fun for all as almost no English is spoken. We then walked around for several hours and being wet and cold around 4 pm we found a tradition small place where you could go inside and have tea and tradition Japanese afternoon snacks. That was a delightful experience eating food I had never seen. A must to see if you are in Yokohama but best I would think in the spring. About 10 minutes by cab from cruise terminal,

These are beautiful gardens with a number of historic Japanese houses scattered throughout as well as a hilltop pagoda. It's a great place to get a feel for how Japanese people lived in past times. The best time to visit is when they light up the gardens at night during the "Sakura" (cheery blossom) season in late March/ early April. Then it is truly spectacular.
