This is a big-box hotel in the docklands of Yokohama, close to the convention centre, funfair, and art museum. I don't know what star rating they claim but I'd say it teeters between 4 and 5 stars.

The lobby is expansive and very well decorated, classy, the opposite of the Shanghaiglitzery which percolates most upmarket hotels in Asia of late.

Check in was good, in English, and efficient.

The room was large by Japanese standards, decorated as is the rest of the hotel in late 20th century chic, a bit anodyne but tasteful. On the 61st floor, the view was stunning. The bathroom was a good size, with high quality amenities and a comfortable long bath. There's free wifi in the room (but, oddly, not in the public areas of the hotel), and a modest sized working desk. The bed was uber-comfortable, firm with a fluffy duvet. There was a big kettle, with tea (and coffee, but you pay extra for that). I found the room lighting clunky (it was either all on, or all off - but maybe I missed some essential control). In a hotel of this standard these days I'd have expected to see an ipod dock, and if there had been bath salts I'd have felt really pampered!

I had breakfast in the 70th floor restaurant. The view is, as you'd expect, dramatic, although next time I will pass, and eat in the small coffee shop on the ground floor, or in one of the many coffee shops in the mall next door. First, I felt a bit queasy eating breakfast at the top of a building a quarter of a kilometre high in an earthquake zone! Second, the breakfast buffet was a sort of a Japanese riff on Western, and didn't quite make it - I'm being picky here, as there was plenty of choice, but... the bacon wasn't grilled crisp enough, there were plenty of sweet pastries but few good breads, there was honey and maple syrup but no jam, and the staff were slow to refill my coffee.... And it cost US$40 (for which there should be an a la carte option - there isn't). But, if you were on holiday or impressing a date, you'd probably be in the right place.

I didn't try the fitness centre but went for a morning run in the neighbourhood. Altho' there's plenty to do/see (the Art Museum was excellent and only three minutes walk away), this could be almost any reclaimed waterfront anywhere in the world - Buenos Aires, London, Melbourne, take your pick. So yes, there are great waterfront vistas and sweeping architectural statements, but it's not really Japan.

I checked out super early at 4am, and it took a couple of minutes to find the desk clerk. Otherwise the service was impeccable.

This is an excellent hotel, good value for money, respectable enough to be the "right" hotel to satisfy business associates, and I'd certainly stay there again if I needed to be in the 'hood. Attention to a few more little details would take it firmly into memorable 5 star territory.

Room Tip: All the rooms are high enough to have a great view

-A nice room, spacious
-Shower was nice
-But the beds were too hard, and so I wouldn't stay at the hotel again for this reason.
-One place I stayed recently which was much more comfortable was at the New Grand Hotel (main building - classic building not tower).

The hotel is situated in the dock area of Yokohama in the tallest building of Tokyo.

The service is immaculate. The room was very spacious, beautiful and with super views over Tokyo Bay. I stayed on the 60th floor.

The buffet breakfast is super. Go early as I experienced lots of traffic one morning and had to wait for 20 minutes. Had to rush breakfast and barely made it on time for my meeting.

I was here only for 2 nights so I did not have really sufficient time to explore the area. From what I saw there is not much to do, everything is newly constructed and you have lots of shopping malls.

If you have to visit Mitsubishi or Chiyoda than book this hotel. It is next door and within 10 mintes walk you are at the reception of both corporations.

When booking, ask for the special MHI or Chiyoda rate it can give you a discount upto 50% (which you need as this hotel does not come cheap)

Service is excellent and they have a nice bus service to bring you to either Haneda or Narita for a very reasonable price. Also these run like clock work and exactly on time.

When going again I will try to book, great experience.

Room Tip: Ask for the MHI (Mitsubishi) or Chiyoda rate.

Stunning hotel, great views *see other posts*. I can't get over the politeness of Japanese people, the rest of the world should learn from these wonderful people! Needless to say the wonderful Japanese hospitality was very evident in this lovely hotel. I couldn't possibly want more from a hotel than this!

Could you possibly ask for more ? A hotel haflway up the tallest building in Japan and overlooking the sea of Japan ? Perhaps not,... and as you might expect, everything about this "uber-hotel" is on the button. Service is exemplary, spotless interior, stunning views and facilities to make the eyes water.

The only downside is that it's a conservative hotel in many ways - formal and far from relaxed. The drinks bar is almost "old club" but feels like a facsimile of something it can never be. Shame.. perhaps the team are trying too hard ?

It's also wallet busting ? Fancy a swim ? Sure.. £15 ! Gym ? Yup.. on site but you need more money.

How about a drink in the bar.. Fine sir, that will be 840 Yen (£6). in other words, its a touch expensive. But lets get real are you really shocked ?

Reminder:-
Japan
Downtown Yokohama
5 star
Service you can only imagine (plenty of staff)
Largest building in Japan
Enormous shopping arcade on campus
Marble, Crystal and Glass

See, I knew you were expecting it to be expensive and in this dept, the Royal Park Yokohama more than meets your expectations !

Enjoy the stay

Room Tip: There is a happy hour but the menu is restricted Watch out for Humdity try to get a room on the western side to see the dramatic scene of sun setting over Mount Fuji Bring a nice fat wallet stuff with money.
