A great opportunity to see things from a different angle. part of the experience for us was being with Japanese tourists an seeing others responses. The funicular is great fun, and as most others visiting here will do, we then went on to the cable car and the pirate ships across Lake Ashi

We used the Hakone-Tozan Railway to visit the Hakone Open-Air Museum and then connecting to the Gora Cable Car and the Hakone Ropeway. An excellent experience with some great views.

This is a switchback railway, so when it stops at each station, the driver has to get out of the cab and walk to the other side of the train. I find this highly entertaining.

It can be busy at times, after all, this is a huge tourist destination just outside of Tokyo; many Japanese people come to escape here for the day. If you're lucky enough to get a seat, peer out of the window and you can see some great scenery such as waterfalls and cute houses up on the edges of mountains.

The train was crowded. We had to stand throughout the entire ride and it was boring and stuffy. The views were blocked as the windows were low. To make it worse, we had our lugguages with us. It was summer season so we saw some beautiful wild hydrangea flowers along the way. They were low enough next to the track.

No wonder there were long queues at the platform. They were smart to wait for the next train to avoid standing. It will be more enjoyable if we had seats to enjoy the views or take a short nap on this slow-moving train.

The scenery is nice and you enjoy the trip unless the train is crowded and you are carrying heavy luggage. It is a slow moving train.
