You can travel inside or go up on deck. Food and drink choices on the boat are limited. Wished we had more time to explore around the lake

Stylish little Japanese village and a gateway to the Lake and views of Mt Fuji. Disliked that we didn't see Mt Fuji as she was covered in cloud the two days we went.

In my 5 days stay in Japan, the one and only day that rained so hard was when i went to Lake Ashi. While views were obstructed, it eventually cleared, though not totally, leaving a nice enchanting feel of low clouds hugging the rim of the lake.

Loved it lots of fun - my advice stay at least one night...divine. A very romantic spot with kitsch twists.

We took the pirate ship across Lake Ashi which as a sightseeing trip wasn't all that great as we didn't get to see much that we wouldn't have otherwise seen from the shore. However the pirate ship itself was a bit of a laugh and it was a novel way to get around, and meant that we got to where we needed to be.

Another bonus was that it came free as part of the Hakone Free Pass, so although we probably didn't enjoy the ride as much as we'd hoped, at least we didn't pay a huge amount for it.
