“Beautiful hotel but limited wifi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2014 via mobile

This is a beautiful hotel in a spectacular site, with excellent service. The Japanese restaurant us hands down superior to the 'French' one, with an excellent breakfast and a wonderful dinner menu. The view of mt Fuji on a clear day is spectacular. My only complaint is the lack of wifi anywhere but in the lobby close to the checkin desk. I was there for a conference, and in that circumstance limited wifi is problematic. The room does have wired internet, but in 2014 it is not all that useful given that even laptops don't have Ethernet ports. I understand that this is a resort and you are supposed to relax, but as a conference site, this is not ok. Overall, however, a great resort.

This is undoubtedly a 'high end' hotel but it is getting somewhat dated and the service in the French restaurant was the poorest I experienced in Japan. The staff actually seemed confused as to what was expected of them. The set dinner was good with a excellent steak, although overall it could have done with more generosity on the portion size. Buffet breakfast and the service (in the same restaurant) was much better.
The rooms are huge with lots of facilities and extremely well maintained but they are somewhat dated.
The setting on the lakeside is lovely and I understand there is a good view of Mount Fuji. Unfortunately it was one of only two rainy half days during my stay in Japan so the mountain did not put in an appearance. The weather cleared up the following day but visibility only extended to a glimpse of snowfields through the clouds.
There is quite a bit to do around the resort but I did not approve of the 'Zoo' - the sight of an indoor pen containing sheep and a single Pelican meant I went no further than the door.

Room Tip: A room with a lake view would be a plus

My wife and i staid one night at the Hotel.
The Hotel is very nice, great view to Fuji mountain.
The room is very good but:
We arrive at 14:15 (room is available from 15:00). That day was very raining so we got to the Hotel very wet.
The reception english is poor. The attitude is very bad. We explaind the man at te reception that we are wet so maybe he can help and give the room or other room earlier. He decided that we receive it at 15:00 , and that whats happened. Did not tried to understand. Other people arrive during our waiting, and receive the room. Even did not ofer a cup of tea! make us very nervues.
Also, if you do not order evening in advance, you do not have what to eat. The management there is bad.
It is expensive Hotel, do not worth the money.
It was the worst attitude Hotel from all Hotels we stay during 19 days at Japan.
Also,
-food and beverage prices are high and portions are small
-english-language skills by staff are very limited
-wifi in lobby only ; internet in room by Lan cable only
- Far from Hakone city.

Room Tip: Chhose Fuji view

Mt. Fuji view being a big plus, Indoor+Outdoor Onsen makes it special. The only hotel which was spacious & had amazing views. The Spa adds to the list of things to do at this site, couple restaurants and shopping as well... Overall great value for money!

Beautiful hotel with a unique setting. Mt Fuji is quite visible from our balcony.
A natural hot springs in the hotel is a major attraction.
A really unique experience. The hotel also sits on a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. There is a majestic character that surrounds the place.
Certainly a nice family stop.

... it needs some improvements.
On the plus side, its location on the shores of Lake Ashi is superb. Very quiet and peaceful. Select a Mt Fuji view room. From the balcony, you'll have a breathtaking view of Mt Fuji and the Lake. Also do select a room in the West Wing (less walking and closer to the Western Restaurant (Trianon), the Lobby and the hot baths. If you like the serenity and calmness of Japanese countryside, this is the place to go. Not much else to do, except you have to drive to the nearby villages. Within walking distances are some shops and restaurants (but they close by mid afternoon and a pier for a worthwhile boat ride on the lake.

But there are various negatives too:
-staff service in the restaurants is erratic
-food and beverage prices are high and portions are small
-english-language skills by staff are very limited
-wifi in lobby only ; internet in room by Lan cable only
-no english-speaking TV channels
-japanese newspapers in english are available with one day delay
-room design and outfittings are very outdated.

Room Tip: Select a Mt Fuji view room. From the balcony, you'll have a breathtaking view of Mt Fuji and the...

Stayed here in March 2013 for business meeting.

To begin with Hakone is an amazing place. The hotel was perfect. The river + Mt.Fuji makes a spectacular site at dawn & dusk.

Rooms + service were excellent.

Food - we had Japanese & French cuisines mostly.

Spa was good & relaxing.

Had a gift shop which was good.

Fantastic !!

Room Tip: Go for the room facing the Mt.Fuji....
