This was a delightful experience and not at all expensive. We could have stayed longer. We actually ate there, some lovely vegetable sushi sitting on the floor at a low table.
Men and women have separate bathing areas as the dress code is birthday suit. You can buy a small towel to provide some modesty when out of the pools. You can dry by sitting around or using warm air blowers set in shower like cubicles. Etiquette dictates a full body and hair wash sitting on a tiny stool before entering any pools. Pools range from freezing cold to as hot as you can possibly bear it. The areas are open air in beautiful little rock garden spaces. A great way to end the day.
Do take note of the bus times for the last bus. The K bus is not frequent in the evening.

It was a Ainu day when I was there but the atmosphere is so good that e rain did not stop me for dipping in e outdoor onsen.

I am a great lover of onsen or hot springs and Japan is one of the great countries for this lovely (non) activity.. I have been to Tenzan a couple of times. This onsen is really lovely and the buildings are very traditionally Japanese looking and tastefully done. I went to both the indoor and outdoor pools. They are segregated. I understand there is a non segregated one at this lovely complex for families. Even the so called indoor one is partly outside and there is a covering for a couple of the outdoor pools. There are several pools of varying sizes and they are surrounded by greenery. It definitely is in the country The pools are of varying sizes and temperature. It is a wonderful and reasonably easy day trip from Tokyo. You can go into the baths and come out and eat or even take a nap and than go back to the pools. They have areas with tatami mats looking out to greenery where you can rest. Bring a book if you want. The food is good and the restaurant looks out to the river and the side of the mountain. The outdoor one has a wonderful traditional steam room that you have to bend over to get into. I love a good steam bath. I did not see if there is one at the indoor one. There is a nice coffee shop and gift shop. Nice to spend a night there or as I said it is a great day trip if you are staying in Tokyo. You can stay for a couple of hours or for the day.
