Because it is a busy and expensive area only smoking rooms were available when I booked, but because the windows opened I didn't find that to be a problem. The bathroom was small but worked well and the onsite onsen with inside and outside baths was very pleasant. The trains didn't stop (or the boom gates near the hotel) until 11.40 but still slept well. Great range of options for breakfast (both western and local) and they varied over the 3 days I stayed. Staff were friendly and helpful despite little English. There was a wooden wedge you could use to keep the power on whilst you were out of the room. It was so convenient for all transport options especially if you are using a 'free pass'. I found two small places close by to eat.

Room tip: rooms away from the train line would be quieter

Literally right across from Gora train station, a 2-min walk. Most courteous staff, limited English but they do try. Super clean.

This is one of the very few western style hotel in the area that doesn't require you to book with a meal package. However, breakfast (at 540 yen) and dinner (1080 yen) could be added with prior notice. Breakfast, buffet style, mostly Japanese food, does have a small selection of western items (scrambled egg, toast, croissant, milk, yogurt, coffe/tea, fruit).

Twin room, at 18 sq m (195 sq ft) is pretty comfortable and comes with 2 chairs and a coffee table beside a desk. The hotel does have a communal Japanese onsen bath which is probably more comfortable in taking a shower and a dip than cleaning in your bathroom (standard, prefabricated, cramped).

Being next to the train station, the western side of the hotel is right by the tracks and will suffer from some noise (trains run from 5 am to a little past midnight) but I found it negligible although some may want ear plugs. The hotel, overall, is very quiet.
Within 15 minutes walk you have access to about a dozen eateries. But most of them do close early at around 7 pm.

Of note is that price at their souvenir shop is very competitive. Some items are far cheaper than what you pay at the stores near tourist stops.

They do make it clear that they offer an excellent value stay at a reasonable cost without excessive provision of amenities, and that is absolutely spot on. It’s a good hotel, better than a ‘business’ hotel, but at the same time, not fancy either.

Pros: Excellent location - a minute walk from Gora station. Friendly and efficient service. Good price. Good size communal bath which has an outdoor section. Bed was firm, but comfortable. Good wifi reception with a fast connection service. There are various types of vending machines on different floors.
Food was average, but good value for money.

Cons: Small bathroom. View from the room was not impressive.

Provided: yukata, communal slippers, tooth brush and toothpaste, comb, but no hair brush or razors

This was a budget choice in an expensive area. It was in a very convenient position, a minute from Gora Station. The rooms were clean & comfortable & you could open the windows for some fresh air. The bathrooms were tiny but the toiletries were good.
The buffets were OK; there was a lot of choice but there was no fresh juice at breakfast- just the same fizzy & still drinks machine as dinner. You could make tasty ice cream sundaes for dinner (&breakfast too if you wanted to!) The dining room became full & noisy at times as there were a lot of tourists from other countries.
The staff were helpful. The luggage forwarding on check out was successful although the receptionist at first looked a little panic stricken & told us we could do it only if the next hotel accepted it which of course they did.

We didn't want to spend a lot on a hotel as knew most of our time would be at Pola and the Open Air Museum. This hotel was a great choice- budget friendly in an expensive place. Clean and tidy rooms and no problem with noise from trains- nice to open windows as well. There is a pleasant onsen area and lounge to meet friends. Staff friendly although not a lot of English speakers and we did have a bit of a run in (unusual in Japan) with one staff member regarding putting beer on our room tab.
Really wide choice of breakfast options and the young restaurant staff were lovely. The location is just terrific as close to station plus our splurge at Itoh dining by Nobu restaurant!

Room tip: Ask for a quiet room away from train tracks
