“Absolutely Fabulous”
Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

We have just stayed here for two nights and had an amazing time. Absolutely everything is carried out to perfection. The "stylish room" is very tastefully done and exceptionally well equipped (complimentary drinks; nespresso machine, hair dryer, curlers, straighteners, your own kimono etc etc) lovely private balcony with own onsen. The staff are wonderful. Our butler was Miu and she looked after us so well, serving us at mealtimes, giving us excellent advice and was utterly charming. The food is sublime. All the experiences are very personal, watching the chefs cook your Teppanyaki one night and private dining for the Kaiseki the next. In between you can easily get around the area on the various transport links and see everything. Yes,this is an expensive place but it is definitely worth it, the memories are priceless.

My wonderful time in Hakone, Japan. Beautiful blend of all traditional Japanese Ryokan concepts with the international standard hospitalities.

--Cons--

Need well prepare for transportation to the hotel. It's sit in the heart of small mountain village.

--Pro--

Facilities: Beautiful, Beautiful and Beautiful. I love to stay close to the nature like this.

Rooms: Good quality of rooms, amenities, functions and very clean in every details even in the private hot spring at my balcony.

Foods: It's a surprise that we've got all private room with private butler for breakfasts and dinners. Exotic Japanese food in every meals, it's more than fine cuisine.

Services: Superb!! even they're not all english-based communication skills. They're all pro-active, great attitudes and more than willing to help. Mr.Sho Tsujii is wonderful in every task that he had done. He may have to do many roles in the hotel as a Ryokan-management style, but he was so active all the time.

Very peaceful stay with great services from best people in the industry, in Japanese style!

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor with private onsen in the balcony is superb!

What a peaceful place! Relaxing hot springs piped into your own room! Beautiful rooms, excellent amenities in the room, W-Fi, internet access. Superb restaurant with local ingedients. Not much English is spoken, for they cater to a Japanese clientel. One of the most splendid places that we stayed in a long time.

Room Tip: The suite are great. Recommended the Matsu no To (Pine Building suite.

My wife and I got engaged here so I could be somewhat biased but I think it's a great place to stay. It's not a traditional ryokan but I like the modern rooms and the fact that you eat in a separate building. The issue I have with traditional ryokans is where to sleep in the afternoon before the futons come out (I generally feel like a sleep after an onsen) and standing around feeling awkward while the staff set-up the meal in your room. At Hakone Suishoen you don't have to worry about either of these issues.

The staff knew I was planning to propose and went out of their way to make it special. We had one of the maisonette rooms and paid a bit extra to have them pick us up by car from Tokyo. Very attentive service throughout, flowers for my wife and even gave us the label from the wine we had at dinner to take home.

The food is great. Very good quality teppanyaki and interesting breakfast. Unlimited drinks and espresso machine in the room were nice touches.

If you are looking for a very traditional ryokan I would try Gora Kadan but for me this is a nice mixture of the best elements of a ryokan with the conveniences of a hotel. Easy booking system and bi-lingual staff if you are traveling without someone who speaks Japanese.

I have been to Hakone many times in the past. This is one of the best Ryokan to stay in Hakone area. Service was impeccable. We called ahead and they had a car waiting for us at train station just to take our luggage so we can go take the cable car to see mt. fuji. By the time we were done site seeing, the car were waiting for us to take us back to hotel. The room was spotless. I also liked the Yukata and heavy coat they provided.

The teppanaki dinner was excellent. Everything was fresh and tasty. Especially the live abalone. The optional Wagu beef steak was excellent too. But nothing compare to the japanese style breakfast. Especially the special breakfast drink and home made tofu. Loved it.

The environment was excellent too. Behind the hotel is a forest. Air is so fresh in the morning. Each room has outside hot spring. Me and my partner was in heaven.

Best part of the stay was the service. The host speak excellent english and treat us with genuine care. This is the best part of the hotel.

The only reason that i deducted one star on value is due to the spa. The shower in the spa is too small and looked a little dated. The therapist could be more friendlier.

Excellent place. Highly recommended other than the spa.

This mountain resort consists of 23 rooms located in 4 different buildings. With such lay-out, this Japanese style ‘onsen’ (hot-spring) hotel will offer ‘quite and comfortably isolated’ feelings to all its visitors.

We recommend that you should request your favorite room when making reservation as the atmospheres of and views from each room are very different. You are able to “pre-study” the rooms by studying the web-site or brochure.

We stayed in ‘Uruwashi’ room, described as a ‘Grand Suite Maisonette’ in the brochure, which has a separate bedroom upstairs. Although it is good to sleep in a quiet bedroom, you would better note that you should be ready to walk up and down stairs every time you want some rest.

For all-day TV watchers, every room has a wide-screen TV set (but with poor repertoire of rental DVDs) and, in addition, you will be pleased to find a water-proof TV set at side of terrace bath (if you still like to watch TV under such atmosphere). We are slightly disappointed with this terrace bath only because it offers no Japanese ‘onsen’ feeling by having western style bath tab. However, we have to comment that quality of hot spring is excellent.

As for the room amenity service, there is a ‘Nespresso’ coffee machine available in every rooms and our appreciation can be extended to a plenty of free drinks in refrigerator. It is of a good service as drinks offered in the most of Japanese hotels are unreasonably expensive. Shampoos and soaps, which are all Greek ‘Korres’ brand, offer relaxing fragrance, and ‘yukata’ offered for every visitors are beautiful.

Last but not least, staffs, who seem to be very young, are kind and helpful and made our stay very comfortable. This time, we only had Japanese breakfast in Momiji room, which is in a historic building, its taste and quality made us think to visit this hotel again to enjoy the hospitality, ‘onsen’ and foods.
