“Excellent hotel”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

The hotel was excellent, with good service staff. Even though the washroom in the room was a tad small (we stayed in a twin sharing room), the water flow was excellent (warm hot water!) Amenities like shampoo, conditioner, facial foam and bath foam are all provided in large bottles for usage, unlike other hotels which give out small bottles of soap. (So ecologically friendly!) and the soaps are of relatively good quality too! Panasonic ion hair dryer provided (: (: (: and sufficient power sockets in the room for charging of handphones, cameras, etc.

There was a small cupboard in the room with spare pillows and hangers, which came in handy(:

One downside to our stay was that the hotel room was not brightly lit, even with all the lights in the room turned on (yellow lighting), it still was quite dim (think romantic), which could be troublesome for those of us who prefer brighter lit hotel rooms. Also the Wifi signal in the room was slightly iffy, I use an iphone 4 and for the first few days the only way to get signal was to sit at the door of the room open... hmm... my friend using her samsung s4 had no issues though.

The hotel is conveniently located near shopping malls and departmental stores, and even a 24 hour supermarket, in Dayz Town (about 7 minutes walk) down, on the way towards the Okura Epochal hotel next to the conference centre. There's a Daiso there too, and a gaming arcade in the basement of Dayz Town.

Just FYI, non-smoking floors are nice, 5th floor has washing machines and vending machines, though noticed it seemed to have a smoke smell.
Overall, nice hotel. really enjoyed my stay there. (I was there end August 2013)

Room Tip: Non-smoking floors are nice, 5th floor has washing machines and vending machines, though noticed it...

I had a room in the Annex which is also a wedding centre. Keep meeting wedding parties in the lift, in the corridor must be time of year. Not many people at breakfast this time. Hotel is excellent if your in Tsukuba. Easy for shopping centre several food courts. At least three large supermarkets within 500m. Starbucks and KFC easy walk good Italian style a little further away. Annex has large rooms for Japan. Breakfast good internal restaurants good but very expensive. Suits me its 10 minutes walk to the office.

This is quite a large hotel conveniently located next to the central bus station and the Tsukuba Express rail terminus. Buses go to Narita and the Tx goes fast into Tokyo.
The hotel is a business hotel and I have been using it for many years. Its rooms are a reasonable size and are comfortable, though they lack drawers to keep your clothes in, providing a hanging closet only.
There is an annex building which contains a large swimming pool and a Chinese restaurant. A good Japanese restaurant is located on the second floor of the main building, along with a more international and cheap restaurant, where a good breakfast is also served.
There are many good restaurants within a few minutes walk, some of them in a mall which can be accessed directly from the hotel.
The staff are very helpful and most speak English.
Smoking rooms are available.

My Japanese colleagues call this the best hotel in Tsukuba. That it may be, but compared to other Japanese hotels, it is simply average. On the positive side, it is quite close to the train station, the staff are helpful and speak English fairly well. There is a sort of restaurant mall attached to the hotel which offers some nearby dining selections (although mostly fast food). On the negative side, some of the public areas (e.g., the corridor between main hotel and the annex) are shabby. There is free wired internet, but no wireless, so too bad if you want to connect your tablet or phone. The breakfast buffet had very limited selections. Overall simply an average hotel.

Firstly let me start by saying this is not the Okura Frontier Epochal Hotel (there are two with similar names, this is NOT the one next to a conference centre).

That said this is a very nice hotel, which is very well presented with all the courtesy and professionalism you would expect from a smart hotel in Japan.

The room I have was a little smaller than my previous hotel in Tokyo, however it was very comfortable with a great view of the 50m lifesize (HII) rocket at the Tsukuba Expo Centre.

As with other hotels Ive stayed at in Japan, it has aircon, dressing gown, slippers, basic toiletries and a minibar. Other than what you would expect from an executive room it is very comfortable and in general the hotel doesn't feel stuffy, but still sets an air of professionalism.

In the hotel there is a laundry service and also two washer/dryers on the 5th floor where a <3Kgs load of washing will cost you 500 yen (this is washed and dryed by machine - detergent provided). In addition there are vending machines selling drinks, food and cigarettes. The hotel also boasts 6 restaurants, however some of these double up at different times of the day serving different food (breakfast room doubles as the Carmellia Cafe Terrace in the evening). You can also access the Annex Pool Club a short walk (30 seconds) across the walkway for a fee (1050 yen).

There is a bus and taxi station very close, but not so that you would notice it there. From here you can access Narita/Henada airports, Tokyo and other destinations. You can also take trains from here. Across the street there is a large department store, and although it sound like there is alot going on here, it was pretty much half full/empty while I was here, it never seemed to get Tokyo busy.

Would I recommend this hotel, definately yes,

Room Tip: I had room 613, its a good view of the rocket at the Expo Centre, for a better view go higher up on...

The Okura Frontier is a sharp, clean hotel, right across from the downtown Tsukuba train station. Forget any notions about a grungy "train station hotel" however, as this is a very nice place. My room was great, with a nice large bed, good internet connection, and very clean.

The hotel featured stylish design throughout the lobby, restaurant and rooms. The restaurant's breakfast was very nice, including cooked-to-order omelets. (Though everyone in Japan seems to leave their eggs just a little bit too runny.)
Connected to a small shopping mall including a very nice bakery.

If you are coming to Tsukuba this is a great hotel in the dead center of town.
