“Very nice inexpensive and convenient location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014

We stayed in the Keisei for 4 days while visiting friends in Mito and were pleasantly surprised with the size of the room/beds and the location, which was excellent - right opposite the station and a multistorey mall with excellent restaurants, food courts and depato. The staff were friendly and courteous (despite an initial hiccup when we discovered that we couldn't use our visa debit), and there was wifi available in the lobby, although not sadly in the standard twin room we reserved. It was a good hotel though and good value at around £80 a night for a big twin (booked through expedia).

The hotel is rather old (and "old style" as well), and you can see it. It would have a need for an important general refreshment, especially in the interior and in the rooms. Room isolation is non existing and in addition the TVs are attached to the wall with the loudspeakers very close to the contiguous room. Breakfast not buffet, but you rather have to chose in a menu, something that reminds me hotel of the 70s. On the positive side staff are friendly and kind. However I would not recommend it, preferring other solution on the south side of the Mito JR station.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms close to the lifts, as they are very old and especially noisy. Sometimes the top floor i...

The Mito Keisei Hotel is the number 1 Hotel in Mito. Still it is a typical averaged countryside hotel. The hotel had been built 40 years ago, and you can see that it is a bit worn out. Depite the renovations 2 years ago , the furniture and the ceramics in the rooms are old and not in the best shape.

The very best part of this hotel are its people: service is excellent, the staff is warmhearted and extremely attentive to you and your wishes. During the alomost 10 years I have been coming, I experienced always these helpful and friendly service.
This makes up for many other things:

the rooms are spacious, but the interior is quite basic. The design extremely old fashioned and uninspired. Internet connections is free, but only by Lan-cable. And the cable is far from the desk, the next possible plug in for your electricity is at the other side: not very practical !!

The air conditions is working at a slow pace, but definitively needed in june and july ! The beds are reasonable comfortable. The bath and toilet are clean but the design is old and not nice !!

There is neither a pool or a fitness center in the building.

The breakfast restaurant on the first floor is ok, but service very friendly. No buffet, you can order specifically what you like.

Newspaper delivery is reliable, also with English papers (Japan Times)

SOme of the carpets in the rooms look really old and dirty. The are not, but somebody spoiled them and the were not replaced as they should have.

Since the hotel lies on top of a hill, you have a very nice view from the top floors, down to the big bridges over the rivers.

From time to time you will suffer under the weekend partys, especially held on the 11th floor.

This was our first hotel in Japan. We were traveling using public transportation. Hotel was very easy 5 minute walk (or 3 min. taxi ride approx. $6) to Mito bus and train station- which is more than just a transport hub. There are restaurants and a large variety of stores to shop in.

We don't speak any Japanese but were able to communicate easily with the hotel staff. Breakfast meals were free each day with a simple menu of either a western or Japanese style food.

Twin executive room was quite comfortable. If you don't like to share toiletries from large bottles with previous guests bring your own. If you like better quality towels than 100- 150 thread count bring your own too.

We were able to get a non-smoking room and hotel in general was smoke free. Reasonably priced, and clean.

Keisei is a standard business hotel with a slightly old fashioned feel - bigger rooms than usual, at least for a single. I was here for 4 nights on business and it was a convenient choice: about 3 minutes from the station on the North side (a better area for small restaurants and bar than the south side where most of the tourist hotels are). The staff were friendly and after a small earthquake, whose only effect was to put the lift out of bounds for a while, accompanied me the 6 floors up the service stairway.

Room Tip: Luckily I had a Japanese colleague telephone to make sure my room was really non-smoking. If you are...
