These guys make unagi-ju from live eel every day. The texture of the eel is tender and delicate. Very, very light on the sweet soy sauce so you can taste the fresh eel. Extra sauce on the side if you want to add more.

You may have to wait in line so be prepared. We were lucky to get there a bit after 11am to get the last open table. Be prepared to wait ~30min to cook the eel once you have ordered. Menu is limited just small, med and large and teriyaki-ju for those that don't like eel which we also ordered. Large was sold out as well as the special eel liver appetizer so reserve those before you get there if important to you. $40 for the medium size which is reasonable considering it costs $30 for a smaller frozen eel from Japan at a supermarket in the states.

Worth the quick stop over (15 min by car) to the quaint city of Narita if you are flying in/out of the airport.

Fantastic meal. Super close to the temple near by. Staff was very accommodating of our larger 6 person party and our varying degrees of Japanese language knowledge. The Tempura was fantastic, absolutely loved the Japanese pumpkin and sweet potato. Easy and affordable. I'd recommend it to anyone (especially for long lay overs, it's a ¥500 round trip train ticket and very easy to get to. We even went to the temple and Calligraphy museum.)

Narita is very famous town by the temple "Shinsho-ji".
It attracts many people, even from ancient time typically Edo-era such as 3-400 years before.
There are many restaurants who serve dish with fresh water fish.
Most famous of all "Unagi", eel. This strange looking long bodied fish taste great when it is cooked from live and just right.

It is hard to find restaurant who serves wild eel now a days, and this restaurant is no exception, but they serve the best alternative eel available which is "Kyosui Eel". This special brand eel is served in just around 30 restaurants all over Japan.

They are not big nor fat eels, but their natural flavor, soft and fine texture are superb.
Especially combined with fine cookig over wood charcoal the after note which go through your nose is awsome althogh their sauce for kabayaki are thick and strong, and could never be experienced by ordinary eel. I can't not tell whether it is due to ingredients or way they cook but probably both combined.

Though they are very expensive 5000yen per "Unajyu", if it is not your 1st time to eat "Unajyu", you should try this "Kyosui Eel". If it is your 1st time you should try ordinary eel which they also serve.

You need to wait 30 minutes after your order is taken, since their preparation will start from scratch. On weekends you may need to wait long time. You need to chek-in 1st with self-registration machine located next to cashier then wait when they are busy.
