We stumbled across this restaurant in Narita and were absolutely delighted. It was undoubtably the best food we have had while in Japan. The vegetable tempura was delicious and the sashimi was devine. The service was excellent from very friendly staff. Thankfully, they also cater to vegetarians (a rarity in Japan). Would recommend this restaurant highly.

Excellent food! It is seated right in the middle of the Narita Market.

My wife and I spent our first day in Japan in Narita, the main objective being to explore the Shinshoji Temple. Our hotel map indicated that along the main temple route we would encounter several restaurants specialising in fresh water eels. We selected the Kikuya essentially because the other recommended establishment is closed on Mondays. We were not disappointed.

A gracious Japanese lady in traditional dress was stationed at the restaurant entrance and assured us in good English that a range of fresh-cooked eel meals were available for lunch. We were guided to a table for two in air-conditioned premises that was very welcome after a walk of several hours on a fairly hot day. We were brought cool face cloths and glasses of iced water while we examined the menu. This was presented in both Japanese and English, accompanied by pictures.

We only wanted main courses featuring eel but pots of hot green tea were provided while our meal was prepared. We both chose grilled eel on rice. It arrived fairly promptly, accompanied by bowls of tasty broth. The eel came in four slices about eight centimetres long; not as much as we had been expecting, but the flavour more than compensated.

The bill for the two of us was 3,750 yen (approx $50). We thoroughly enjoyed the meal, our first taste of a Japanese delicacy, and the gracious service that accompanied it.

I have been eating here for many years and it is a friendly, family owned restaurant. They are used to non-Japanese customers but the food is really Japanese and thus very tasty. Very close to Narita San temple with lots of local shops nearby in the main street. Easy to find, convenient and a nice restaurant in a lovely area.

Had the eel over rice plate. The eel was fresh and perfect. Cooked over coal which gave it a smokey and delicious taste. The sauce was just right, not too sweet. Also had the shrimp tempura, which was perfect. All this good food, and it comes with personal service from the owners, who are now the 12th generation. Overall, the cost was reasonable, the food excellent, and the personal service outstanding. This is a real find.
