Grand Park Otaru
Ranked #2 of 22 Hotels / Ryokan in Otaru
Reviewed August 11, 2014

Stayed for 2 nights this May. Good hotel to stay in as they were ample parking in the basement and easy to access while in Otaru. The views were great and must be spectacular in winter. There a big mall connected to it but we did not visit as we spend most of the time around the beautiful town.
Aging a little but still highly recommend this hotel.

Thank you very much for staying at Grand Park Otaru.

We are glad to hear that you had an enjoyable stay at our hotel.

Our hotel is connected to a large shopping center (Wing Bay Otaru) therefore we have
received positive comments for its convenient location for shopping and dining out.

We truly look forward to welcoming you again when you come to Otaru next time.

A hotel that can serve your general needs well - reasonably luxurious, next to a shopping mall, 5 mins drive from central area, well proportioned rooms. Breakfast buffet spread was reasonably good.

I had the ocean view which overlooked the marina and breakwater. It was not bad but not exceptional. Paying a small premium for it is reasonable.

The only small hiccup I had was the hotel was not in a position to convert my Singdollars to Yen. They could only do the major currencies.

Okay, let me qualify the above title by saying that as a Singaporean, one of the things that make us very happy while on holiday is to be near a large modern shopping mall with lots of food options. Another thing that makes us very happy is to also find a large modern supermarket within walking distance. Based on just these 2 factors, the Grand Park Otaru was our ultimate choice for our holiday in Hokkaido last year after comparing the pros and cons of many other hotels.

We certainly did not regret our choice! From where we got off the free shuttle bus from Kiroro, we took the sheltered walkway up through the train station and the mall in order to avoid having to drag suitcases and children in the snow. The entrance to the hotel can be found somewhere in the middle of the mall and our walk there was much delayed by all the shopping opportunities laid out along the way!

Check-in was quick and efficient and imagine our surprise and joy to be greeted by Miffy bedsheets when we stepped into our room! We took the Family Moments Package, booked directly with the hotel and it is a very good deal, offering 50% off the 2nd room (we travelled with another family), 1 extra bed and breakfast free for our family of 2 adults and 2 kids.

The room was warm and spacious and offered a very pretty mountain view although am sure the ocean view would have been more spectacular. If there was anything to fault, it was only that the bathroom was a bit on the small side and fixtures a bit old.

Breakfast was an elaborate affair held in an area with floor to ceiling views of the sea and the boats moored in the harbour. Both the Japanese and Western selections were fresh and extensive but given the large numbers of tour groups in the hotel, even the impressively large tub of Chirashi-don (sashimi in rice) was wiped out the moment it made an appearance. It would be advisable to get up a little earlier to make your way to breakfast so that you can enjoy at least a good one hour there.

We had our dinners on both nights in the Wing Bay Mall in which the hotel was annexed to. Again, you won't go hungry as there are many restaurants to choose from and if you are really ravenous, do make sure to drop by the Aeon Mall there to pick up fresh food, fruits, dairy, baked goods and so on. Oh and if you like cheese, the variety in the supermarket is just amazing and at such reasonable prices, you just have to bring some home.

The station at the hotel is Otaruchikko which is only about one or two stops away from the main sights of Sakaimachi and the famous canal. We took the train to Minami Otaru Station and had a very pleasant 10 minute walk to Sakaimachi. Getting back from there, we hopped on a bus just outside a Le Tao opposite the Orgel Music Box shop.

Overall, we had a really lovely stay in Grand Park and needless to say, had to open up our extra bags owing to the amount of stuff we bought just within the Mall itself ;)

Comfortable and spacious with excellent view of the Otaru marina. It is located next to a shopping centre. Very convenient for shopping and dining. Also within walking distance to a JR station if you don't drive. Reasonably rates as well. I chose a package without meal plans as there are plenty of eating places to explore in Otaru.

Room Tip: Choose a room with seaview
