My main purpose of coming to Hokkaido in early May is to watch the cherry blossom. I have ever gone to the parks in central Sapporo like Maruyama Park and did see quite many. However, on comparison in term of scale, this one in Goryokaku Park is unbeatable.
I was moved and stunned by the full cherry blossom. I had stayed for an evening here around 2 hours, and another 3 hours in the next afternoon. The views and feeling at day time and night time are different and you are advised to see both if time allows. At night, the lanterns were lit up and the atmosphere is romantic and fantastic. In mid day, the flower view (it's a flower sea I would say) is grand. Many local families and friends gather, chatting and BBQ (oh, I got the tempting smell and really thought of offering to join them). Very vivid.
I was simply too busy at this park. My eyes were busy, my hands were even busier as I couldn't stop taking pictures. Sunlight, wind, flower position, people movement etc all vary in a second and every picture taken at different moment is unique and has its own beauty.
The colour of the flowers here are mainly pinkish white. If there are more different colours such as deep pink, the view will be even better.
