Location was perfect and there's a Lawson and Family mart just around the vicinity with the former just right next to the Hotel. Easy accessible hotel and the staff were all very friendly and professional in their execution of their duties. Parking was more of a hassle since the underground parking has very limited lots available and the gradient is huge(cars with low bumpers beware!) and the other options is the open spaced carpark at the back of the hotel which took us a big 270 detour before we got to it. The size of the room was surprisingly spacious for Japan's hotel standards.

It felt like staying among the residents of small town of Hakodate. We were there during the new year eve and the whole place was quite, most of the shops were closed.

But inside Dormy Inn was warm and comfortable. Breakfast was very satisfying with tasty and nutritious food served every morning. We had breakfast overlooking some traditional Japanese houses. Room was big but a bit dated. Lawson is beside the hotel. Tram station just 5 min walk away so no worries.

We were given daily free spa tickets with free taxi to their sister 5 Star hotel. The experience was marvelous. We went both nights, advance booking is a must. I must agree that dormy Inn is a value for money hotel.

I was really impressed with the front counter staff, they were very friendly and helpful, as well, they had a leaflet with all the instructions and features printed in English.

The hotel is on the Main Street and is convenient to public transport - trams. Parking is easy, there are plenty of spaces and there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

Pros:
- Very affordable
- Typical sized room, very clean, property itself is maintained very well
- Parking was only 600 Yen per day, underground, very limited though.
- Staff very friendly and most understand English.
- Free, tasty Ramen after 21:00.
- Easy to find and get around from there if you are driving. Just follow the street car tracks to the JR station/Morning market. I parked at the train station, 500 yen for a few hours, can't remember exactly the pricing. Morning market right next to the station.
- Street car stop just a few minutes walk away, did not use it while there.
- There are two restaurants on the street level (reception is on the first floor, one Italian and the other Japanese fast food. But many others within a short walk.

Cons:
- It is quite far from the tourist areas, but all can be reached by the street tram or car.
- Parking is limited, think they send you to an adjoining parking lot if theirs is filled. Maybe 10-12 spaces?? One morning cars were parked in the no parking areas and quite difficult to maneuver out from it.

I am confused. When I searched TripAdvisor reviews
for a hotel in Hakodate and read about 300yen tram
journeys from Hakodate station, I assumed that, as
foreign tourists they had arrived by Shinkansen.

How wrong can you be. I had not realised that Hakodate
boasts two separate JR stations - Hakodate and Shin
Hakodate Hokuto.

Arriving from Tokyo by Shinkansen with two cases, with
heavy rain pouring down, we rushed for a taxi. Half an
hour and 5,500 yen later we arrived at Dormy Inn Express.
I am still bemused how so many tourists arrive here via
Hakodate station

This is a very pleasant hotel, with helpful reception staff.
On arrival we were offered our choice of bed pillows - mine
was perfect!

Our twin bedded room (613) was a very good size with
plenty of hanging space. Good TV and WIFI. Decent sized
bathroom, with large, thick towels. Unusually, no toothbrushes
or shower caps provided. Also, no mirror above the desk, which
my wife always likes for makeup.

Breakfast very reasonable at 600 yen.

Free laundry facility, ice machine and vending machines on the
second floor.

There is a Lawsons supermarket about 20 metres from the hotel
and a large range of restaurants in the vicinity.

Convenient for the Ropeway and apparently the Hakodate station,
but I still want to learn how tourists manage to arrive at this station
rather than the Shinkansen terminus.
