“A bit disappointing”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

We booked by internet for two nights and regretted it as soon as we saw the place. It is old and a bit tatty and the room was very small and seriously cramped. There was no free wifi as advertised, and breakfast was not included unfortunately. The staff were friendly and helpful and the place was clean and it was close to JR station.

I Came in Mastue because of a Conference and i chose this hotel because of prossimity reasons.
The hotel is quite old and the first impression you have is about the smell: then you'll get used.
The rooms are really small but i got a twin room (anyway smaller than a normal double room).
The positive aspect is that the room are really cleaned!
The breakfast, included in the price for me, it's not worth if you have to pay: you have mainly Japanese food which is actually the same fishy food that you'll have also for lunch and dinner, the only western stuff are some mini croissant and some juice. Because of this i don't advice you to pay the breakfast. In the station there are several shop where you can buy for a small price what you prefer!!!
The worst thing is internet: they say to have wifi connection but you go at the hotel and you discover that they just have internet via cable so basically you can't connect your mobile phone or tablet!!!
There's a television in each room but you have to pay 1000 yen to buy a card that allow you to see it.
Other negative point is the staff that doesn't speak English: they are nice and they try to help you but it's complicated to get real help if just to understand your room number they take 5 minutes.

oh, there's no laundry service but you can wash your stuff paying 400 yen for the washing machine and 100 for the drier...

Room Tip: it s better to choose the tween room: it's a bit bigger.

The Matsue Urban Hotel is the closest hotel (over a bridge) from the Kunibiki Messe (conference centre). It occupies an older, weathered, multi-storey hotel building.

The rooms are very small (as typical in Japan) but seem to grow larger with each passing day because they are well laid out, with needed amenities and facilities right at hand.

What the hotel lacks in modernity and ambiance is positively counterbalanced by genuinely helpful staff and a spectacular, home-cooked hot and cold buffet breakfast, with cuisine to fit many traditions and tastes. A fine buffet lunch is also available.

The Matsue Urban Hotel is a fine value for the relatively low cost compared to other nearby hotels. It is a good example of the Japanese "business hotel" concept.

Room Tip: There is a coin laundry for guests in the parking garage under the hotel. A traditional departmen...

Great location - accessible to many interesting places especially the cruise around the Shimane Castle. Across the street is the train station where you could find good restaurants, convenience stores, department stores, bookshops, cafes, etc. Staff are very helpful. Complimentary internet access is fast. Healthy buffet breakfast. I will stay here again if I visit Shimane
