Room:
=====
We got a twin+extra-bed corner room with a sofa that could be turned into an extra bed. In general room was very nice with a small entrance area and with bathroom and toilet separate (great for family), but very close.

There is a small space in front of bath/toilet which can be used for luggage etc. In general very very nice compared to price and the fact that this is a Japanese hotel. Baby cot really good. Japanese & Western breakfast excellent with really nice seating areas (traditional Japanese small rooms).

Note that there is extra charge for usage of extra bed as well as baby-cot. This is quite normal in Japan (but irritating).

Hotel:
=====
Hotel is almost boutique with a nice exhibition of hats (for sale) at lobby. Cool :-) Staff's english is limited, but they give a really nice map of the area. In general - the hotel is cheap for what you get (not least compared to the standard business hotels which were very expensive with poorer service and locations that are only good when taking public transport into consideration).

Breakfast
=======
Japanese + Western buffet breakfast - it was excellent, nothing less. Really good service and very nice Japanese-style cabins for eating which was great and fun with family.

Note:
====
We also stayed at a 5-star Okayama hotel later on our trip. Koraku was much better value-for-money.

Room Tip: Shell out to get a corner room (twin + extra) even if you do not need the extra bed. The room is muc...

This hotel is conveniently located, at a short walking distance from the station and the tourist attractions (garden and castle).
We were welcomed by a very pleasant staff and all spoke good english. The room was ready in advance of official check in time and we could use it immediately without any surcharge, which was greatly appreciated after the long flight and the train journey. The room was similar to those of standard european corporate hotels.
The bed and pillows were firm, which we liked, but the hotel does cater for different tastes and the information pack states that you can request softer mattress and pillows if you prefer.
The bathroom was functional if a little bit dated in its decor. The only real minus was that it smelt of cigarette from the previous occupiers, and even the odour neutralising spray present in the room cupboard did not quite manage to get rid of it. We can't really blame the hotel owners for this as smoking in bedrooms is allowed in some hotels and public places in Japan.
Breakfast was really good and there was a choice of japanese or continental breakfast.
There is wi-fi access in the lobby and internet access via cable in the bedrooms.
Overall, we would recommend this hotel of spending some time on Okayama.

This hotel is very well located at short walking distance from Okayama JR station.
It's a modern hotel with a nice lobby and a helpful staff.
You have free LAN connection in the rooms and free wifi in the lobby.
Rooms are western style with good bed and nice bathroom.
The only downpoint is the breakfast. It's Japanese style and nothing was at my taste.
So don't take your breakfast at the hotel and find a nice cafe in town.

This is a very good ‘value for money’ hotel. You should get a room for US100 or less.
We had a premium room which was larger than standard Japanese hotel room. It had the novelty of a massage chair which I enjoyed after a day's walking. The room size justified an extra few dollars.
It is about 400/500 metres walk from the train station (plus the standard 200/300 metres walk within the station). We are in our 60s and could do it easily with our suitcases.
It is about a 1km walk to Korakuen garden.
It has a relatively low cost breakfast option at 840y. Breakfast has a stronger focus on Japanese food than western. If you want only western food it will be a bit ‘light on’. Sometimes breakfast does not fit our travel schedule. As an alternative, train stations always have pastries and other options.
The staff are friendly and my sense was that the hotel is focused on providing a good experience for guests and seeks feedback to improve. The staff's English is variable but this is not an issue.
Typically of Japanese hotels the beds were much harder than we are used to.
The pillows did not work for us on the first night. One pillow was soft enough but too flat. The thicker pillow was like a brick. After the first night we asked for extra pillows and this solved the problem for us.
Okayama is a good base to visit Himeji castle (best cherry blossoms we saw in Japan), Korakuen and Handayama Garden and Takematsu (bonsai nurseries and Ritsurin Garden-great garden; just about the best we saw in Japan) I recommend this hotel as a good value tourist hotel.
We spent 3 nights here.

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel mainly to visit the garden and the castle. The location is very central, close to the station and to some restaurants. The hotel gave us bikes for free to visit the garden. The room was quite big compared to what we were used from hotel rooms in Japan and we had a view over the canal. The personel didn't speak much English but tried to help out where they could. Breakfast is not included but costs around 800 yen and includes japanese dishes but also toast if you like. There is also a restaurant which is good but also there, don't expect the personnel to speak English ;-)
The only inconvenience is that wifi is available only in the lobby. But overall I think it's an excellent value for money and i would definately recommend it!

Excellent in all respects, largest room we had in Japan in this price range, we got an upper floor room with view just by asking, very friendly, helpful staff, if you feel the mattress or pillow are too hard they give you softer ones. Best location a few blocks to JR station.

Room Tip: nicer view on the side facing canal

Having booked this hotel through Agoda via tripadvisor and found a very good deal, I was a little worried that there might be a catch. There wasn't. Very close to the station (where you can catch regular limousine buses to the airport) the Koraku made the perfect base for exploring the area. One word of advice - take the East exit from the station for the shortest (5 minute) walk.

The cherry-blossom covered canal-side path, which our room overlooked, made for a very pleasant morning walk and it only took 10-15 minutes to walk to the castle and the beautiful Korakuen Gardens. There are lots of restaurants and bars in the area, and the hotel provides a useful map with recommendations from previous guests.

In the hotel itself we found the room to be clean, well-appointed and reasonably spacious. Do ask for softer pillows, though! We ate breakfast in the pleasant, Japanese-style hotel restaurant. Not at all expensive and something for everyone. If you don't like Japanese breakfasts, there's the option of unlimited coffee, fresh fruit, toast and croissants.

Because of the proximity to the station we were easily able to visit Kurashiki on a half-day trip and the train journey from Naoshima (where we spent the previous couple of days) was a very quick and easy one.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the canal path
