Friendly, happy, helpful staff. Free hot and cold drinks machines, efficiant coin washers, great location, free wifi and comfortable (slightly 80's) rooms. We had a brilliant stay and would pick this hotel if in the area again.

The hotel was located within a 10-minute walk from all of the places we wanted to see (the castle, gardens, some shopping, and the train station).

There were a number of good restaurants nearby.

The rooms weren't luxurious, but they were very comfortable for us. Decent bed, TV, bathtub/shower, internet, hot water, robes, etc.

The wifi worked well in our rooms and in the lobby, and I believe they had wired internet in the rooms as well.

There was a laundry room on the 5th floor (I think it was the 5th).

And my favorite part was the coffee and soda machine in the lobby - free coffee, hot cocoa, coke, etc! So we would grab a coffee everytime we went outside to help us stay warm.

Oh, and there's a free breakfast that consists of just some basic pastries. It was too early for us, ending at 8:30 or so, although it seems that they just leave any leftovers on the counter until they're all gone (ie: there were still a few pastries left when we came down at 9:30).

All in all, a good hotel! I liked it!

Let's be honest, when it comes to the rooms Hotel Maira is just another random business hotel. It's clean, functional and well kept not the newest of it's kind but everything you need for a comfortable stay for a good price.
What really makes the place special is the extremely friendly and helpful staff. True, their English might not be the best but they really make you feel welcome and at home and try their best to help you as much as they can and provide you with what you need.
A very nice bonus are the free sweet rolls you get for breakfast and the free beverages you can take in the lobby all day. They even encourage you to do so.

The place is easy to find and you can walk to the train station and some nice restaurants from there. Rooms are well kept and quiet.

I had a very pleasant stay here and will definitely come back.

I stayed here for work.
As previously mentioned the staff is very helpful.
English was limited but the guy at the desk didn't let that hinder him from doing everything he could to pull maps, call businesses, and make sure every question I had was answered.
Major plus is this place had free wifi!
I've been in 5 hotels from Tokyo to osaka and this was the first one that had it.
Wifi is important to me.
If I had to stay in Okayama again I'd come back.
I rated cleanliness lower since there were stains on the carpet.

The hotel has a few things working against it. The dated decor of the rooms and and overall aesthtics of the hotel are bit poor. However, the staff are wonderfully helpful and have basic English skills, which matched well with my basic Japanese skills. There is one computer in the lobby which is generally free for internet use. A short walk from Okayama station puts it in a good place and it is surrounded by restaurants and had an active night life while I was staying. Okayama had a number of interesting attractions though in all honesty its location makes it a better vantage point to do a number of day trips to the north, south, east and west.

I was really impressed with the service staff at this hotel provided during my stay.

Staff even organised to extend with my stay at a discounted rate which normally can only be done using online booking website. Hotel is also very flexible in terms of cleaning time and availability of breakfast etc.

Even though facilities are average, I would definately recommend this hotel for anyone considering to visit Okayma for the simple reason of great service provided.

I don't usually bother with reviews, but I would like to say something about this hotel. Like another reviewer I found the site through rakuten travel online. It is very well situated about 5 minutes walk from Okayama station. Easy to find because you just walk until you come to the Nishi river, then walk down until you reach the hotel. At least two of the staff speak reasonable English and they are friendly. The hotel provides free coffee, coke, water and orange "juice" (better call it squash) available 24 hours a day. The breakfast is nothing to write home about, just a roll and one of the abovementioned drinks , but I have a lovely room on the 6th floor which is light and airy and has a view of the river below. It's larger than your average business hotel room, clean and quite cosy. For 3,800 yen (advance booking) you couldn't ask for any more...
