A private museum like this is hard to find in other city in Japan, we had a great time enjoy the wonderful atmosphere here.Although some construction are under going,it did not bother at all!

As I walked through the Ohashi house, I could only shake my head, lamenting the days when such craftsmanship, sense of art and architecture were so valued. Visiting this place is like walking into the subtle beauty of Japan's past. The detail of the design, along with the confidence of the execution are what make this merchant's home a work of art and a cultural asset. Because most preserved homes in Japan belonged to the Samurai class, the Ohashi house also affords the rare opportunity to see the lifestyle of wealthy commoners. If Japanese architecture is of interest to you, than Kurashiki is a must-see town, and the the Ohashi house a must-see stop.

This historic home located near the Bikan Historical District is a survivor from the Edo Era. There are some old pictures and personal effects (hair decorations, dolls, and picnic baskets) - except for a short handout all the signage is in Japanese. A free guide can be arranged through the Kurashiki Goodwill Guides (and also for a tour of the area).

Nice look at Japanese home design and style. Good for about 30 minutes.
