This was a good hotel for a short-stay. We had to book it at the last minute because we had a round-trip of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Pass booked from Nagoya but the Japanese tour operator Yokoso cancelled it at pretty short-notice. We saw that they even cancelled tours at short notice which on their website were shown as "guaranteed to take place", so beware of Yokoso! Check in at the hotel was very smooth, we were greeted by a Porter in good English and the Check in staff behind the reception desk all spoke fluent English, actually better than in any of the other 3 hotels we were in during our trip. It seems the hotel has taken on board many of the complaints from the older reviews. The Lady Porter even brought us up to our room, a very nice gesture. The room could probably be called standard size in Japan. We actually had an additional bed put into the room and doing this really means you can only stay for 1 night. However, if you're only 2 in the room you can consider staying a bit longer. The breakfast buffet was pretty good but we like Oriental breakfasts, so if you're more into Western buffets, then the choice is more limited although you should still be alright. They have a pretty good "food terrace" for dining and it looked nice when we checked but we still went out to one of the wonderful Japanese BBQ places you'll see on the right when walking from Toyama Station to the hotel. The hotel is very close from the station, maybe just over a 5 minutes' walk. Overall, a very pleasant stay and will consider staying again if in the area. And, as mentioned, they DO speak English in the hotel!

The Hotel Isnt Grand , the terrace Is !
The Lobby and Corridors are a bit tired but the rooms have been renovated and are pretty decent !

Service good ...average for Japan.

Near the Station, Castle, Food etc and served by Tram !

Definitely not a Destination Hotel but for the price , location and very clean rooms certainly a good option

Rated a four star hotel, the staff speak minimal English. Thanks to Google translate, we managed to communicate.

The rooms are large and comfortable, mattresses a bit soft. Full sized bath tub let's you stretch out in the hot water.

Furniture is a bit worn out and needs a refurbishment.

Centrally located, next to a tram station and you can get free tram tickets from the desk. They have two bicycles fit guests to use. Book them early because they are quite in demand.

Just 6-7 mins walk from the Toyama station, it is conveniently located. Rooms are comfortable with 2 single beds in the twin room. Rooms does not have wifi access but you could loan the wifi router from the reception. Breakfast is a buffet with a fairly good range of Japanese and western fare. As we were catching an early bus from the station, we found the breakfast convenient and good value.

We stayed over in Toyama to start the trail to Motsumoto the next day, so we were looking for a place to stay with a good bed that wasn't too expensive. Since we found a good deal on the Grand Terrace we chose this hotel.
Walking into the hotel it looked quite fancy, so it was a bit disappointing that the staff didn't speak English, nor that there was an English menu in the restaurants.
The room was fine, beds ok, so I guess that when you speak Japanese it's a good place to stay. If not, I believe there are better places to find in Toyama.
