Best place I have been to in Japan so far. It is a must to go if you want to immerse yourself in traditional Japanese culture. Owner is really caring and helpful . Food was really of high quality and delicious! The hot spring is really good too ! Highly recommended

We were frankly amazed by the service and excellence of this ryokan. We especially loved soaking in the outdoor open air bath even though we booked a room with a private small bath area too. The food served for breakfast was amazing and hearty. As an added bonus the owner of the ryokan offered us a lift back to the JR station. Would definitely come back here again if we’re in the region.

One of the dwindling number of onsen that offer an (optional) outdoor volcanic mineral hot water bath in the traditional way (no bathing suit), both mixed gender or female-only at specified times. For the very shy, a separate spring feeds a small but deep bath in your private room (certain rooms). The more common split gender baths are here too, so you have three choices. Nice and hot, too.

Not cheap, but fair value and charming staff in an easy-going weekend getaway town. We had a surprisingly good time shopping and a surprisingly strenuous hike very nearby.

The in room breakfast was a terrific spectacle, and very tasty. Dinner was good too, but next time I'd get the breakfast every day and eat at a local restaurant for dinner.

Room tip: If you are a first time Japanese bath-goer, get a room with a private bath.

I'm very glad I booked this place. The owner and staffs are amazing! They're really friendly and services are exceptional.
The public area and rooms are well kept and tidy. There are indoor and outdoor mixed onsen. You'll have to take a service cable lift sorta to get to the outdoor bathe. Since the outdoor onsen is a mix, they provide a certain time period for ladies only which is really great!
The breakfast is simple and nicely prepared by a nice and friendly aunty.
Trully amazing place and would definitely visit again when I have the chance.

1. Ryokan:
Ryokan is over 100 yrs old but was maintained fairly well. Clean rooms, ample toiletries with shampoo, conditioner and body wash, free flow tea leaves. Traditionally designed to bring you back in time. Futon is comfy. Pillows are abit thin. Could have provided more variety of pillows. Bathroom water takes 5mins to warm due to the distance from hot springs. But, you can always take bath at the public onsen. Highly recommmend it. Ryokan is located 11mins walk from ITO station. Manageable. Overall, 4* for the Ryokan.

2. Service and Food
We were attended by Managing Director Akihisa Inaba upon check in. Very personalised service and fluent in English. He briefed us on the etiquette of onsen bath and provided us some recommendations of where to visit during our stay. Taxi from Ito station to Yokikan is reimbursable by Hotel. From Yokikan to Ito Station, the managing director fetched us back to Ito Station free of charge. That’s really good service

We stayed in 103. Our room attendant was very polite and friendly. Although unable to speak English, she always smile while serving breakfast and dinner. As you can see from the pictures, food is amazing ! Good variety and a taste of japan!

Overall, 5* for service and food!

3. Facilities
3 onsens available for use with 2 types of hot spring water. This is one of the few ryokans which has the mixed gender onsen. Both gender must be fully naked before use. It is usually quite empty and perfect for couple who wants to soak together. To get to the outdoor onsen, there is a ‘cable car’ system that brings you from the ground floor to the roof. It’s quite an interesting experience. The other 2 onsen are indoor.

There are cold, hot water and Ocha locates right outside of the onsen.

There is also table tennis for those who are interested.

Overall, 5* for facilities
