Went with a tour group advertising for traditional ryokan experience. Hated it, far from "traditional" and as we entered before or tour guide we were told we're couldn't stay even when pointing to booking list. Rooms hadn't been renovated since the 70s and smelt like stale cigarettes. Buffet meal was suspect for European and japanese style alike. Nothing made us feel welcome in the least.

Me and y family stayed at the Hotel Onoya for 3 days and 2nights during the summer holidays. Actually this was our 2nd time since we like the experience. The food was very good and have lots of variety specially during dinner. The package includes buffet dinner and breakfast. There are different onsen rooms to choose from. There was this classic roman times design. My kids love the pool so much that we spend hours and hours. There are also karaoke rooms, a game center and a play area which my 4 year old boy enjoyed. The beach is just few minutes away from the hotel. There is also a ropeway nearby that leads to the Atami castle and this trick art museum. We will surely comeback for another family fun-filled vacation. Please visit and you will surely enjoy and have a best relaxation experience!

Room tip: rooms facing the ocean gives the best view

The hotel on the outside does not look much, however inside the rooms are very large Ryokan style ( old japanesse style ) rooms which made the experiance interesting and enjoyable.
However be WARNED that it is only good for double or twin rooms, if you want a single room you will be very disappointed with your small shoe box.

Room tip: Do not stay here if you want a SINGLE room.

Be careful if you are booking single accommodation here. Just completed a tour in Japan. Itinerary promised a "Ryokan experience" at Hotel Ohnoya, and so it was - for those who were couples, or sharing a room - large tatami-floored sitting area, separate toilet and shower, separate bedroom. For those who paid the Single Supplement, ie more than anyone else, it was a 3m x 2m "broom cupboard"! No room for toiletries or clothes in the 1m sq modular bathroom - they had to go on the floor outside the door. No cupboard, no bedside table or light, basic single bed,ot even an extra pillow. As the hotel was fully booked, no hope of any change. Did not in any way compare with the accommodation provided in every other hotel we stayed in throughout Japan.

Room tip: If you are thinking of booking here, check for room type before confirming!

We stayed one night in this outdated hotel. The good - awesome view of fireworks show on Sunday, location was a 5 min walk to downtown area and beach. The Bad: The smell on the 3 floor was like stinky cabbage. The room was a bit better than the hall way but not much. The carpets were old and outdated. The onsen bath area was nice with a view over the bay. The breakfast was not very good. No internet service in room.
