My husband and l stayed here in July for 4 nights. The family answered every question no matter how bizarre! For example, about the local Keirin race track, the correct way to eat the fermented soy beans, where was the best bicycle racing shop and did they have a contact for a masseur. Their advise on eating places was also invaluable. Our eating highlights were the authentic sushi bar and the local ramen place.

Stayed here for 2 nights in August - was travelling solo. This is a great family run ryokan and Matsumoto is a great place to visit.

Stayed in one of the Japanese style rooms and shared bathroom facilities. Room was very spacious and comfortable and facilities are very clean. And having the free wi-fi is great. Also enjoyed the Japanese breakfast on offer there too. Train station pick up and drop off also provided by the family was great.

Provided with free bike rental (making getting around extremely easy) and maps of the recommended cafes and restuarants was a great advantage to staying here.

Matsumoto castle and centre is around a 6/7 minute cycle away. Also there is a great supermarket located about a 2 minute walk from Seifuso and stays open very late. Located very close to the great onsens in Matsumoto too.

Matsumoto is a lovely place to visit and staying here is highly recommendated!!

We stayed here beginning of August. We are a family of four -two teenage boys/two adults. We were booked for one night but because of the accommodations: big room, air conditioning, ensuite bathroom, big shared kitchen, free wifi, and beautiful onsen, we immediately decided to stay a second night. The second night we weren't able to stay in the big tatami mat room but in the main house in two separate rooms. It was still very convenient and lovely. We borrowed bikes for the day - such a wonderful perk after walking the Nakasendo trail with all of our belongings on our backs. It was nice to get on a bike and cover more ground. Great location, near a very nice store, Delica, where we bought most of our meals! We loved Matsumoto so much, we want to move there! Thank you family at Seifu-so! You treated us so well!

Room Tip: Room in annex for families is the best.

We stayed at Ryokan Seifu-so in mid July. We called from Matsumoto train station, and our lovely hostess told us, in English, that someone would be there to pick us up in 15 minutes. She gave us directions to where to stand, and 15 minutes later, our host was there, smiling and helping us load our bags into the car. It was a10 minute drive to the ryokan, where our hostess had written our names on a welcome board outside. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room that had a small table and chairs, a tea set, a small refrigerator, and a TV. They also provided us with yukattas and slippers. The toilet was down the hall, and the gender split onsens were downstairs. Both were clean and well-provided. There was even a hair dryer in the women's onsen. Also, we were able to do laundry there, which honestly, was a life-saver.
There were free rental bikes from the hotel, which were really great. The owners' daughter had written up maps, in English, of the surrounding areas, which were incredibly useful.
We chose to have breakfast there, which was an additional cost, but it was good. We had the choice of traditional Japanese, Western, or toast. We chose Japanese, and it was very nice.
Overall, we loved our time there. Matsumoto was fantastic, and Seifu-so made it even better. We definitely recommend it.

We stayed 3 nights in July with our 2 kids of 9 & 11 years old. The basement large bedroom was really nice, double futon very comfortable, fridge in the room, airco also very usefull and table to share some dinner at home with children. Great welcome and services : we borrowed bicycles for these 4 days : we LOVED these marvelous walks along the river to go downtown (twice a day +/- & 15 minutes). Great also to benefit from host pick up at train station, and for the rest of commuting to downtown, we did it with pleasure by bike. Definitely a ryokan to recommand, and Matsumoto is actually a must visit for its castle and nightlife downtown. Much to visit around Matsumoto also : the wasabi farm, onsen, etc,....

Our family of 4 spent 3 nights at this lovely Ryokan. It represented great value for money for us. It is no wonder it is becoming such a popular place to stay.
The people were very helpful. We were given a double room-lounge and bedroom-in the annex. The futons were very comfortable-double thickness.
the choice of western or Japanese style breakfast was great and taken in dining room in main house.
We used the free bikes for riding to town and back(ten minutes to castle)- half price tickets for castle are available at Ryokan.
we didn't get to use the baths as a group of students were staying there. we used showers shared by those in annex but didn't have to wait at all.
It was very busy but we didn't really notice other people there and breakfast were staggered.
Easy parking. we didn't have great luck with restaurants near by but found the supermarket Offered a great selection of snacks-sushi etc which we ate in our wing.
we took day trips to Narai, Magome and Tsumago on Kiso way.

Stayed here for 3 nights while I explored Matsumoto and the Nagano area. It was a great choice! The place is clean and has great wifi and AC (probably my top 3 requirements!). Food was tasty and the baths were very clean and relaxing. Staff treats you like family and make sure to ask about discounted tickets to Matsumoto Castle! The best thing was the set of handmade maps for the area, with attractions and restaurants - such a nice touch and so helpful!
