Owner description: This beautiful park contains one of the top three celebrated gardens in Japan. The name Kenrokuen literally translates to “garden combining six”, referring to the six attributes all gardens should have: seclusion, antiquity, spaciousness, human ingenuity, water and scenic views.

“Not a Zen but Green garden”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

Most of our trip was during a rain shower (luckily we did have umbrellas), but this didn't really hamper our visit. There are a number of trees and buildings to stop under. The garden can be enjoyed in any season: plum blossoms in spring, coolness in summer, leaf changes in fall and conifers in winter. The visit can be done at your pace. They have a tea room if you would like. The plant signs are only in Japanese and Latin so you are at a loss to the types of plants seen.

Billed as one of the top 3 gardens in all of Japan, and it didn't disappoint. It is a photographer's paradise.

“peaceful gardens”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

we strolled through the gardens and thought they were peaceful and beautiful. It was not really high on our list of things to do but felt we should as it was the "draw card'.

“Such beauty”
Reviewed July 3, 2013 via mobile

Well worth a visit!

We visited in summer around noon, the sun was out and the garden was simply splendid. The only downside was there were many visitors which somewhat robbed the place of the tranquility you come to expect in beautiful Japanese gardens. Maybe pick the time to wander through??

The gardens are on a hill so you also have the benefit of seeing the spread of Kanazawa below.

A visit in winter would be amazing...seeing this beautiful garden with snow.
