“A lovely, elegant ryokan”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

We stayed one night in this ryokan and should probably have spent another night in Takayama: this is a great place ! Everything was nice about this ryokan: it's cheap, clean, nicely decorated, the breakfast was good, the hosts were nice and helpful. One of the place we liked most !

This ryokan was fine for our 2 day stay in Takayama. It is a 5 minute, easy walk from the station. When you arrive, you can pick up a map from the Tourist Information Centre right opposite the station and ask them where the ryokan is. I know I am rating it at 3 stars, but I believe tripadvisor doesnt allow for a "good" rating, only "very good" or "average" and we believe this place is "good".

The staff are fine, as are the rooms. My wife was 5 months pregnant so we asked if she could sleep on a double-layered futon which was no problem.

A great perk was the free bike rental which we used for a day. Also, there is free wifi in all the rooms which was useful.

The onsen (hot spring and shower) are not open at all hours, so you have to shower/wash between 7 and 9 in the morning and 3 and 10 in the evening. There are large communal sinks on each floor at which you can brush your teeth, as there is no sink in the room.

We didnt have any of the meals offered by the ryokan so cannot comment on those.

Room Tip: try to get a room away from the main road, mainly because there are no curtains and it gets very bri...

I loved the place, the woman also very warm and sweet. It was my first ryokan and it was a great experience. Great location, very good price, clean, lovely onsen. Definitley worth it! If you go to Takayama choose this one!

A great spot to adventure from; easy walk from the station and around the main town area and super fun and easy to make the most of the free bikes available. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating, our room was warm and cozy- tho a tad noisy with the heating system for the fabulous Onsen right outside- a catch 22!
Overall would absolutely recommend as a great spot to base yourself in gorgeous Takayama.

We loved our stay in this family run guest house and in Takayama. We stayed two two nights during the Matsuri Festival in October, so there was a great vibe around town and lots of events to enjoy. Aside from this, it is just a beautiful little town. The guest house had free bikes which we made good use of our second day there, riding up to Hida Folk Village and exploring the old town. Our room was small, but very comfortable and cosy. The hosts were delightful.

We stayed here for one night as part of a wider tour of Japan. Room was spacious and clean. The bathrooms are shared with shared sento bath tubs. All very clean and comfortable but we needed to pluck up a bit of courage for our first bath!! Very conveniently located for the attractions and easy walking distance from the train station. Takayama is a lovely village - well worth a visit for a day or two. We enjoyed our best meal in the whole of Japan in a tiny restaurant in Takayama - unfortuantely we didn't find out the name! It is wooden fronted and on the little high road - hunt it out. You won't be disappointed!

We enjoyed this Minshuku. Nice room and service. Shared bathroom on the same floor, not really an inconvenience. The onsen is a little small and old. The free bike is very useful as we toured the whole town in one afternoon. The room didn't come with breakfast. Overall, it was good value.
