We had an unpleasant check in experience and I anticipated writing a negative review. But we had such a pleasant stay, that I simply could not do it. The room was the largest one we saw on our 2 week trip, the breakfast was the best, and the onset was the nicest of all. Highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel 2 nights this summer. we love its european style interior at the first sight. Staff are all friendly and try the best efforts to communicate with us in English. Guest room is spacious with wonderful both mountain and city view. wifi is stabe and at good speed. although it is not located near train station, hotel shuttle bus is available every hour to and from historical town centre. Spa centre is good and provided with over 10 style. if you're massage lover, don't miss to spend at least an hour to take the body treatment.

Room Tip: hotel offers different kinds of package, walk through all before confirm booking

This is my second stay at the Hotel Associa Takayama. My first stay was July 07. Since 07, I have stayed in 15 hotels with onsens, and this is one of the nicest. The variety and views are excellent. Since 07, the rooms had been updated and remodeled and were quite nice. The buffet breakfasts and dinners are wonderful. On our second dinner they offered us a wonderful steak treat for eating two consecutive nights. What a delightful gesture. Buffet dinners are not included and if it is a weekend, you need to make a reservation at least one day in advance. The shuttle is only once per hour so you must plan your coming and going times. The gift shop in the hotel is wonderful with quality okashi and omiyage (sweets and souvenirs). The prices are not more expensive than in town.

Great hotel, quiet and serene. Regular shuttle to the train station. It is a bit out of centre of town, but well worth it . If you can afford it, get the mountain view room. Spacious, clean room, good service. The onsen is the major draw card for this hotel. Ladies onsen on one floor and the gents on another floor. Great view from the onsen, so relaxing, kids are welcome in the onsen as well. Great experience for the little ones.

We had a bit of an issue in the Japanese restaurant for dinner, language barrier. Hardly anyone speaks English, not even the basic. Having said that the meals were delicious, the Hida beef was excellent, expensive but worthed it. Go to the western buffet for breakfast, unless you are keen in having fish and tofu for breakfast, then go to the Japanese restaurant.

Good hotel, not new but well managed. Reservation was easy, quick and room rate was reasonable. We paid less than 18000 yens for a room for one night with two queen beds and buffet breakfast. The room we stayed was very spacious, clean and bright, with a magnificent view of the mountains from the big window.

This hotel was located on the hill. As a resort, tennis court and golf were part of the facility. Shuffle bus runs every hour. We spent the first half day in Gero and planned to arrive at Takayama station at 5pm. However, we missed the shuttle bus due to the delay of the Gero train. So we had to wait at the café next to the station. The café was closing at the time we were there, but staff was kindly let us sat inside the café when we were waiting. It was windy outside and dark, and we had a hard time to identify the hotel bus stop and the bus. After all, we were helped to get on the bus after 40 minutes wait and lucky to be on time for our dinner at the hotel, which we called and made the reservation the night before.
There were several restaurants in the building:
-Rosiere: French cuisine, western food. This was the place we had our buffet breakfast.
-Teppanyki was where you sat at the counter for the fresh seafood or the Hida beef.
-Ka-Un: traditional Japanese cuisine. This was the one we picked for dinner, pricey but enjoyable, with hot pot of crabs and grill Hida beef etc.
-The Sushi bar.

The most enjoyable part of our stay in this hotel was the Spa Wing-onsen, which was located on 5th and 7th floor. More than ten indoor and outdoors hot spring baths available and the 6th floor feature the Yushoku Raku Terrace cafe, and a hot spring bath just for the feet (足湯). I loved the Hida-produced milk, which was available in the vending machines on this floor; it was also available in the market place downstairs on the main floor close to the reception area. I was told that the hotel designated one floor to one gender and changed the rotation everyday. So even for a two-days/one night stay, guests could be able to enjoy both baths. We did it very late at night and it was so relaxed and comfortable. The spa area was very clean, well equipped and organized.

Buffet breakfast was good, with choices of American and Japanese style of food. It was a nice atmosphere for the first meal in the morning.
Local grown tomato was so fresh that worth to mention. As well, the tasty miso/soybean paste for the rice porridge.

Notes:
-Better arrive the Takayama station and catch the shuttle bus before dark.
-This place was busy for the local tourists/groups. More relaxed during weekdays.

We had the best stay of our tour in this hotel. The rooms were huge and bathrooms big. There was internet in the room and the onsen was the best in our trip. The dinner was also excellent. Breakfast was also good but could have been better if we had it in the restaurant with a view. We had a great time in the hotel

Enjoyed our 3 nights stay at this hotel. Wonderful breakfast spread, we had the chance to have breakfast in both their Japanese and Western restaurants during the weekend crowd. This hotel is famous for its onsen, that even native Japanese tour groups travel here to use the onsens. Yet, the onsen was not over crowded with 6-7 different "pools" to try. Lovely night view.

The rooms are rather basic, old fashioned European design but clean and tidy. Will recommend.
