We had the best stay of our tour in this hotel. The rooms were huge and bathrooms big. There was internet in the room and the onsen was the best in our trip. The dinner was also excellent. Breakfast was also good but could have been better if we had it in the restaurant with a view. We had a great time in the hotel

Enjoyed our 3 nights stay at this hotel. Wonderful breakfast spread, we had the chance to have breakfast in both their Japanese and Western restaurants during the weekend crowd. This hotel is famous for its onsen, that even native Japanese tour groups travel here to use the onsens. Yet, the onsen was not over crowded with 6-7 different "pools" to try. Lovely night view.

The rooms are rather basic, old fashioned European design but clean and tidy. Will recommend.

We have specific requirements re non smoking rooms, since we were in the black Saturday bush fires. This hotel gave us a room that had a sign next to the bed, saying don't smoke in bed. The man at the desk was adamant we could not change rooms, my face was puffed and eyes watering, my lungs struggling. After dinner we went to the desk and asked for manager, eventually he showed us a Japanese room which had fresh air. We didn't mind the traditional table and chairs but asked for chairs for our size.
Both The rooms overlooked the car park and the beds hard as rocks, again our guide was able to help arrange extra bedding underneath. Others had the same.

I went to the onsen and it was truly amazing I went in every pool and tub to try them all. There was no one else there of course. Sitting overlooking the whole area below and hot and glowing was great.
We went to the restaurant for breakfast which was great, choice of western and Japanese food, we try everything
The restaurant at night is superb, the food delicious and service good.

Room Tip: Ask for view overlooking alps, not car park

We stayed here for 1 night as a stopover on our way to Kanazawa. The hotel website has information about the shuttle bus from station to the hotel including the timings and where to wait for the bus. Information on the website was so clear that you cannot really miss it.
The shuttle bus arrived promptly at the designated time as shown on website, not a minute earlier nor a minute later !
It was a short journey up the hill to the hotel. As we arrived early, we could not check in yet but we were able to drop off our bags and then went back with the shuttle bus into town to start exploring. We got back to the hotel when it was time for check in and when we went to the front desk, the keys were ready and the bags were already in the room.
Spacious rooms, amazing views, clean bathroom. The only thing is that I don't think the air conditioning was working properly at the time. Wifi also working fine though there are spots in the room where the signal is stronger than others.
We went back into town in the afternoon, again taking the shuttle bus. As we arrived at the station, the bus driver gave us a map of Takayama as well as a leaflet about restaurants in Takayama - this turned out to be our saviour as the time that we went, a lot of restaurants were closed and only opened back in the evening - so we managed to find one based on the leaflet that the bus driver gave us !
We got back to the hotel early evening when most people were having dinner in town. So we went up to the Onsen on the 6th or 7th floor. Amazing ! My first experience of an Onsen in Japan and it could not have been any better.
In fact, it was sooo good that I had to get back early in the morning to see the views; and it was even better than the evening. As they switch the floors for men and women, if you go twice then you'll be able to experience both floors.
The views in the morning is simply amazing. And there are so many hot pools to choose from, from the small-ish bucket looking things to bigger pools, to one that had bubbles, to ones where water falls over your shoulder to a little bath-tub like pool. There's also a jacuzzi if you fancy.
The shower facilities were very clean and they had all the amenities, e.g. shower gel, shampoo, conditioner etc in big bottles too. In the changing room there were hairdryers, even moisturisers too by Shiseido !
Then onto breakfast, which was a plentiful buffet, both Japanese food as well as continental and hot breakfast. They even had beer if you wanted it for breakfast !!!!
The hotel was functional, it had all the necessary in the room and the rooms were big for Japanese standard, however, the main reason I chose the hotel was simply for the Onsen and that did not disappoint at all, it actually surpassed my expectation.

The hotel has a european design and atmosphere. The corner room which we stayed offers a spectacular view of the Japanese Alps, and by the side view is a small plot of land filled with moss pink, or shibazakura. The view is simply awesome!
The onsen was superb as well - one floor to each gender and changes the rotation everyday which allows us to enjoy the hot spring baths on both floors over our 2D1N stay. There is a cafe and vending machines (one of it offers haagen dazs ice-cream!) on the 5th floor for you to unwind after the bath! Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Hotel Associa Takayama!

Large well appointed rooms with comfortable beds. Very nice shower. Amazing view of the mountains from the rooms.

Excellent buffet breakfast

Negatives:
Smell of stale tobacco in the room, windows don't open to air out the room.

Hotel is a 12 minute ride to down town. It is located in the middle of no where, but there is an hourly free shuttle bus to and from the train station in the center of town.

After few hours of bus ride to this nice town of Takayama, we were quite tired and felt out of our comfort zone. Then we found out from the information center at the bus station that the hotel we were going to stay was a bit further, we were a bit disappointed. Later the information center told us that the shuttle bus is available hourly from a nearby coffee shop which apparently is run by the hotel. We could deposit our bag in the coffee shop and they managed the transportation of our bag to our room. We could walk around the city before we took the shuttle to the hotel. The hotel was up on the hill with a very stunning view of the city in the morning and at night. The hotel was pretty crowded with many tourist. The public hot bath on top of the hotel is so nice and spacious. The dining option are many from the low end to the fine dining. We got a very spacious room with 2 big double beds, which is so rarely in hotels in Japan. The room has a very nice view of the city. In the morning we got breakfast buffet with complete choices of food: Japanese, Western, chinese.

Room Tip: Choose a room with city view
