If you want a traditional ryokan experience at a good value, this is the place to go. This place exceeded my expectations: wonderful Japanese baths, excellent food, great location, and friendly staff.
Baths: The Japanese baths are public: divided between men's and women's but swap each night so you can try both during your stay.
Food: both breakfast (included in the price) and dinner (extra) were great. Definitely take the dinner option as you won't find any better value in the city (or anywhere else in Japan that we saw). In traditional Japanese style we were served many small dishes - a perfect opportunity to get a feel for Japanese culture.
Location: The sites are straight down the hill, just a 5-10 minute walk. If you are driving, there is a convenient parking lot. If you aren't, the staff will pick you up from the train station and drop you back off. (It's definitely walkable, but perhaps not with your luggage).
Kid friendly: We had our 1 year old daughter with us. They had a Japanese child seat for her to sit at the table with and plastic dishes for her to eat out of.
Rooms: the rooms were on the medium-to-small size, but fit our family of 3 just fine. The floors were the tatami mats and we slept on futons that were put out at night. There was tea served in the room during the day.

Connectivity: there was free wireless internet in the hotel. It was a little slow and I had to go down to the common areas to get a stable connection, but was able to connect to read email and browse a little in the evening.More
