This is a very friendly family-run hotel. No English spoken but it wasn't a problem. The rooms are large, and in the traditional Japenese style. No private bathrooms- rather you use the communal onsen baths which was a great Japanese experience.

As a fairly basic hotel, this is great alternative to the much more expensive ryokans available.

This small ryokan is located an easy 10 mins walk from the train/bus terminal at Takayama. There is a 7-11 around the corner, a short distance away. Free shuttle pick up and drop off (for departure) is provided. Although the proprietors spoke little/no English, they are very friendly and helpful.

There are 2 toilets on each floor and 2 separate bathrooms on the ground floor for male and female. Be warned that this is a Japanese style hot bath. Additional washing (sink) facilities are outside the guest rooms on the second floor. The bathrooms are only available for use till 10pm. However, they made an exception for us on our first day due to our late arrival.

The rooms are basic, but big in size compared to the usual tiny Japan hotel rooms. There is a heater, air conditioner, old TV. The pillow is weird and flattish, and seemed to have beads in it. There is a flask of hot water provided. Wifi is available free, with no time limit.

Overall the facilities are basic and although everything looks old and dated, it is adequate for a short few nights stay. I did enjoy the quaintness :p

the staff are very nice and helpful. he gave us free delivery from hotel to the downtown. the other day wd had booked another hotel, he also gave us a ride yo the destination.

Location is good , just around 10 mins walk from JR station. easy to locate.

the room is typicaal japanese style. relatively large for 2 person. the view is good. you can hear birds singing in the morning. the bathroom with big hotspring inside. only 8 rooms in the house, although the bathroom is shared, you can easily avoid to be bath with other people.

the food is a must try one . we only ordered breakfast, they provided dinner and breakfast. it is a traditional breakfast, with lots of small dishes , fish , rice, miso soup ,etc. they have a large dining area. only us had breakfast in that dinning area at that time.

highly recommend with good value. staff can speak little english.
