Spa Hotel Alpina Hidatakayama

Location of this hotel is slightly off the Takayama JR train station and bus terminal. Takes a good 10 minutes if you're not familiar with the area to get there from either. Close proximity to the old town area.

Decor of the reception area can only be described as simple & clean. Minimalist, almost. The same can be said about that of the corridors on the guest room floors. No pictures, no fancy upholstery. Our room was adequately spacious although the pillows were a little small and thin.

The draw of the hotel was the onsen on the 9th floor, which included an outdoor portion. Fancy soaking in therapeutic hot spring water with a view of the town and the surrounding mountain range.

stay 2 nights here. didn't use the tiny bathroom as we enjoy the rooftop onsen everyday !
the toiletries provided in onsen is better & big space for us to bath with fantastic view!
The bed, pyjamas is comfortable, room size is standard in Japan..small room.
wifi connection is good in the room. Paid 1200 yen per pax for the breakfast. not bad. the bread is nice !
Location is good. within walking distance to the Takayama Station & Old street.
a laundry mart is just beside the post office. (opposite of the hotel) recommended to those who love onsen !

Stayed 2 nights as part of holiday.
Hotel advertises itself as good value modern no frills hotel and delivered.
Hotel is modern, and located halfway between Takayama station and the old part of town both are approx 5mins walk away.
Room is a little small but not that untypical for similar hotels during our trip in japan. Rooms are clean and comfortable and served our purpose as a place to sleep after a long day out.
There is a family mart within 5mins walk and lots of food choices nearby if u head into the old part of town.
Onsen was also extremely enjoyable.
Overall: recommend if looking for affordable no frills accommodation in a modern and clean hotel.

Tiny room, especially the bathroom. Banging noises from outside the room intermittently throughout my stay. Tiny TV with very limited number of channels available. Very inconvenient check-out time of 10am, which I've never experienced before (was charged an extra 2280 yen for checking out at 10:40am).

Room Tip: Don't stay at this hotel!

A great location in a very easy to stroll around town. The hotel is clean and good value, with friendly helpful staff. The rooms are small but comfy - bathroom in particular a bit cramped and in my wife's words a little reminiscent of a ferry. Baths on the top floor offer fantastic views. Overall good for the pric

Good location near station. Good size room for Japan (ie you can actually put your suitcase on the floor), great rooftop onsen, but more for the views than the actual onsen. (Best onsen so far was Tenza near Hakone, south of Tokyo). Bedding is crisp and clean. Wifi in rooms but it takes at least 10 mins to connect and only works when the room key is in its slot. Also it will be the cheapest hotel of our trip at 11,000 per night. Well worth it and would recommend if you want a modern hotel as opposed to a ryokan.

This room was about 20 squared metres! The usual plastic, all in one piece bathroom that looks like it has been slotted in. Everything was very clean, I even ran my fingers around the bathtub and it had been thoroughly cleaned. There was wifi in the rooms, contrary to previous reports. 5 minutes walk from the train station and easily spot table as it is one of the highest buildings in this small town. Very quiet, only noise from the corridors. Still new looking. The onsen is really good and you might prefer showering in the extra space, but of course, you will be sharing with other ladies. Did not have the breakfast, so cannot comment. Great cotton bed linen which was changed everyday. Cotton pyjamas too. Mattresses firm, but comfortable.
