“Good location with nice onsen”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Location : less than 10 minute walk from the bus station & around 15 minute walk to old town & down town area.

The standard room is nice and clean, but not very big. If you want to book a double room, it's better to go for hollywood style (it's actually 2 twin beds attached together. standard double bed in Japan is a little bit too small).

The hotel looks new, clean and pleasant. Onsen here is very nice! especially an outdoor onsen, very relaxing and you can enjoy the city view while having a hot tub.

Staffs are nice and give a very good service, but some cannot speak English very well but are absolutely willing to help you with anything.

The price is a little bit high, but all in all, i'm quite happy with this hotel, considered that it's Takayama.

This hotel is about 5-years old so it is clean and modern. It is about a 5-minute walk away from the JR train station and about 10-15 minute walk away from the major sites. My kids loved the onsen upstairs. We stayed in the Petit Hollywood double room, which was an acceptable size for two-adult and two-little kids. I recommend this hotel is you speak Japanese especially is you have questions (limited English spoken). Even so, staff was young and kept telling us to go to the Tourist Info Booth near the station for more specific information regarding sites since they didn't know much about the town.

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel which has clean, comfortable and good size rooms (we were on one of the upper floors) with amazing views of the Japanese Alps. The segregated indoor and outdoor baths on the top floor were very clean and a great way to end a long day of sightseeing. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the train/bus station and to the town. There is a restaurant in the hotel which we did not use and good WiFi in the rooms with helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again.

The town is small so most hotels are in the centre, as is this one (5 min walk to train and bus station) the rooms were clean but ours was small for a couple, pick a bigger one if you don't want your luggage on all available floor space, ours basically had a double bed pushed against the wall and a desk. the spa on the roof is lovely but the sex's are segregated. One down fall was the smell of cigarette smoke in the lobby as their smoking room was there but in Japan every one smokes so its not uncommon for hotels (and restaurants) to have that cigarette smell

The spa Alpina is a modern, no-frills hotel in Takayama (or Hida Takayama, as it is often called to avoid confusions with other places with the same name). It is clean, simple with quasi-ikea looking furniture, the usual (for Japan) small rooms, although certainly not the smallest i have seen. Small and clean bathroon, which, again, as standard in Japan, includes a medium-tech toliet, which offers additional services as electronic bidet, for instance.
The hotel is very conveniently located 5 minute walk from the station and an area with a few festaurant, and c.10 minute walk from the main square, where the morning market takes place, and the various bridges that mark the entrance to the beautiful old town, which is the main attraction of Takayana and well worth a visit if one is in Japan. Staff is friendly and speaks English. Wi-fi is available both in reception and rooms (info in this respect in various hotel sites like booking, expedia etc are not up to date). Additionally, the hotel has a fairly simple but pleasant onsen (spa) which occupies the whole ninth floor and is available to the guests free of charge. It has both indoor and outdoor baths. Would i go back if i were in Takayama? Definitely yes, unless i decide to go for a riokan, which would also be more expensive. So definitelty recommended if you are looking for a hotel in Takayana

Very lovely hotel, nice and cozy. Hotel staffs are very friendly and they can well communicate in English. The location is very convenience, just a few blocks from train station as well as all those tourist attractions. I will stay there again if I have a chance to visit this lovely city.

The hotel is about 5 mins walk from train and bus station, with an outdoor bath at the 9th floor. As there are very few tall buildings in Takayama, you can enjoy a very good city view while having the outdoor bath. The room is small but clean. Staff are relatively better English so not a big problem to communicate. No wifi available but only LAN port. Besides, there are only western style rooms available. Other than that, everything is good.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms can enjoy the city view as the outdoor bath
