The hotel is not close to the tourist areas but with the hotel shuttle and public bus we were able to get to all the major sights. The onsen is a must. So relaxing ! Mostly Japanese clientele and they wore the yukata provided by the hotel everywhere in the hotel, the shops, restaurants and the onsen of course. We followed their lead and wore our yukata around the hotel and it was fun. We only have one meal in the non Japanese restaurant which was so so as we did not make reservation for the Japanese restaurants which were full when we get down for dinner.

We came here from Tokyo where we could barely open our suitcases (not joking!) and this room was about 5 times the size!! Shuttle bus from the train station is very useful, I didn't even realise there was one but it met our train so that was great - even more so because it was snowing when we arrived. Handy to catch the shuttle to the station then walk around from there. Lovely welcome on arrival with cup of green tea and little Japanese cake, totally unexpected but very nice.

Some of the staff speak excellent English and were so very helpful - especially when we wanted eating places - first night traditional Japanese fare with sake second night cheap noodle/soup dinner. Both recommendations were among the best food we had in Japan. Staff go out of their way to assist.

Computers in lobby 100yen for 15 minutes, the staff were apologising they were old and slow computers but all I wanted to do was check emails and do a bit of banking - all done easily in 15 minutes.

Loved this hotel and loved Takayama. Only regret was I didn't get to the onsen, we were so busy I ran out of time!

The hotel has a lot of free parking.

There is a shuttle bus that goes into town once an hour - I think at 55 minutes past the hour - but it doesn't take long to walk it. Only 15 minutes.

There is an onsen on the first floor - I think this is the best with a jacuzzi and sauna. The sauna closes at 22:00 but the onsen closes at 01:00. It's beautiful to take a jacuzzi outside at midnight with the snow hammering down. There is another onsen in the basement. This is good too, but there is no jacuzzi or sauna here, and it's a little smaller. I prefer the first floor onsen.

The onsen provides guests with all the amenities in the changing room including small body towels, toothbrushes and razors.

Dinner was very big, and the fish on sticks were interesting and delicious. However, the drinks were a little over-priced. We got a package deal of one night including breakfast (including drinks) and dinner (not-including drinks). Quite good value considering how much food we were able to eat, and the use of the onsen! I think one person cost 13,000 Yen.

One small complaint: We had to wait 20 minutes for rice... fairly unusual for a Japanese restuarant not to have an abundance of ready cooked rice, especially considering the quality of the rest of the meal which was fantastic, especially the Hida Beef.

The meal included, salad, sashimi, sukiyaki, BBQ fish on a stick, dessert, rice, shellfish soup and many many other things!

Breakfast was buffet style with a great view out over Takayama and the snow blanketing all the scenery. Some of the western food in the buffet, such as the bacon and scrambled egg, wasn't really that great, but it was ok. I enjoyed eating chips for breakfast! There was such a large selection of food. Japanese and Western food is available!

One complaint - the toasters were a bit rubbish. They were the kind of toasters people have in their house, not the kind of toasters that hotels usually have. So they were a bit slow.

The tatami rooms were large and clean. The toilet paper was, possibly, a little hard. The heating system was very good and warm!

Guests are provided with many things in their rooms, including bottle openers, clothes brushes, and toothbrush sets.

The hotel gave us free coupons that we could use in Takayama at a few shops to try the local delicacies. To be honest, the food that we tried with these coupons wasn't really that great, except for the soft icecream one. That was absolutely brilliant. I had a rum raisin and nuts soft ice. It was very good. The Hida beef we got at another shop with a coupon wasn't really that good, and I suspect that it wasn't actually Hida beef!

The reservation was done through the local Japanese travel agent. The package included one night stay for a double room at the Annex Tennpkaku (Premium floor), dinner and buffet breakfast.
When we stepped out the train station, the hotel mini bus was there waiting. It was a big hotel, not too close yet not too far from the JR station, it was about 10-15 minutes walking distance, depends on your walking pace. Upon arrival, the English speaking manager led us to the Annex floor and gave us an introduction of things we need to know, and we were asked what time we like to have our dinner ready. Different sizes of colorful yukata were available on shelve at the corner of the floor lobby for us to choose. They are for the guests to wear to the dinner and spa downstairs.
The room was so comfortable with warm décor; nice beds and pillows, cushions, armed sofa with ottoman; bathrobe and Japanese “after-bath wear”… blanket in the drawers, and beautifully wrapped Japanese snacks (crackers and candy) on the table. Everything looked new.
We enjoyed having two luxurious bathrooms in the room. The regular one with shower and toilet was so clean and all the metal parts were shiny, spotless. In addition to combs, brush, shampoo, soap, conditioner, face creams, there were other nice items. Two full set of accessories wrapped in a nice bag was placed in a basket for guests to bring downstairs for the hot spring/spa.
The other “private spa”/bathroom with bathtub was separated from the bedroom with a glass window and door, like a bathroom on the balcony. I must say that this
is the best part of the design. This bathroom was equipped with wooden furniture, large towel, and room temperature set for a perfect/ comfortable bath. There were curtains that you can put up to see the mountain view at the time you enjoy the hot tub bath. Hot water was running all the time in the tub and there were herbs for you to put in the water if you like.
There were several restaurants (Japanese, Chinese, and Western style), bars, and banquet hall, wedding and entertainment facilities in the building. Shopping arcade was huge, with good selection of Japanese craft and art works of Takayama. The chopsticks collection was impressive. There were also indoor and outdoor onsen and spa facilities at the main floor.

Dinner served at Shirakawago, the restaurant where we picked for local style cuisine (local grown veg. and beef) and beer/sake at charcoal fire burnt Trori.
We spent the evening with a very enjoyable dining experience. The grill fish and beef sashimi were really good.
Buffet breakfast was located in another western style restaurant on the top floor
of the building. There were lots of varieties to accommodate needs of an international clientele.

Another thing worth to mention is the hotel bus service. We got a ride to the Shirakawago bus station after checked in, and we also got a ride to the morning
market the next morning before we left Takayama. We really appreciated this service.
