Gifu is a relatively small town, you may visit mostly for business. The hotel is confortable and the rooms spacious, altough these facilities really look all the same in the countryside. Breakfast was OK and the internet connection worked well. The hotel however is not located conveniently. You cannot walk to and from the main station or city centre. Considering the price, another hotel might be better.

I've been a regular here for many years, from the time it was a Rennaissance Hotel. As there aren't that many choices in Gifu, it still is my favorite. But I'm sad to notice a steady decline in quality and services that has been going for a few years now.

The location is great if you are on a group tour (which nowadays most visitors of this hotel are) and just need a room to sleep. But beware, the location is remote and there is nothing going on around the hotel. However the location on the banks of Nagara river is nice. On a warm evening it's nice to stroll along Nagara river and in summer season to watch the cormorant fishing. A little bit up the river (10 min walk) there is a great steak house called 'Senryu'. If you have no dinner plans and don't mind paying over Yen 10.000 per person, ask the concierge to book you a table there. The Japanese Hida beef is great and the restaurant grounds alone a reason to visit the place.

The hotel is completely Western, built in the style of the late 80'ies as part of the Rennaissance chain. The rooms are unchanged, but still in good condition. Not special though. Breakfast strongly caters to Asian tour groups and doesn't offer much of a Western choice. If not included in your room rate, skip it and get something in a coffee shop. Some months ago they still had decent machine coffee, that has now been replaced by an awful drip coffee.

Check-in and out service is extremely quick and efficient. The bar on the 11th floor has great views,of the river and Gifu Castle.

Although the Miyako is still my choice in Gifu, I'll probably bite the bullet and change to another hotel if the quality slipsmany further.

Room Tip: Make sure to insist on a room with river view. The view is sooo much nicer than on the other side!

We recently stayed here as part of a conference we attended at the Gifu Convention Centre next door. Although the location was great for the meeting, there's not a lot to do close to the hotel, apart from going cormorant fishing and a bit of souvenir shopping at Kawaramachi across the river. The hotel itself is very Western, so if you're a bit iffy about staying in more traditional Japanese business hotels or ryokans or minshukus, it's perfect. For us, we had spent 2 weeks traveling through rural Japan, so the hotel was a bit surreal in how it was really geared towards Western clientele. That said, the beds are great, the rooms and bathrooms spacious and there are always taxis and buses available. Again, the downside is location and the lack of laundry facilities.

I have had the privilege of staying twice in this hotel, in a very spacious suite. Spacious is not normally an adjective used to describe a hotel room in Japan, but rooms 707 and 724 both have 2 bathrooms, a sitting room, 2 large flat screen TVs and 2 plush, comfortable beds. The marble bathroom has both a shower and soaking bath tub. Furnishings are tasteful and elegant, and curtains can be opened or drawn by buttons.

The lobby has a gorgeous fountain, with many levels and lifelike sculptures of cormorant birds. It plays a backdrop at times to weddings performed in the lobby, and elsewhere in the hotel. There's a constant parade of women in colorful kimonos passing through the lobby and in the elevators, as the hotel is a very popular location for weddings. If you're lucky and there's one in the lobby, you can watch from the second floor balconies.

Wired Internet is free in the rooms, with free Wifi available only in the lobby. The hotel staff is friendly and hospitable, and the Gifu Miyako Hotel makes for an excellent stay if visiting the city of Gifu.

This is a great hotel with very spacious, Western-style rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast buffet and a choice of restaurants on site. Internet (need an ethernet cable connection to use it in the rooms) is free. Highly recommended if you need to stay in Gifu.

The 2 super single beds were so thick and comfortable that we slept very well that night. even though we checked in late after going for dinner and the cormorant fishing tour. We had little time to enjoy the hotel facilities. As we had to leave the next morning at 6 a.m. for Nagoya airport, the staff prepared our breakfast bento boxes to take along on the 2-hour bus ride.

location is very good, especially if you intend to watch comorant fishing. It has a free shuttle bus to fetch you to the place to catch the boat.
request for a river view room, it is beautiful.
food is good, with lots of local produce such as juice, fruist, tofu.
I love my stay there. Room is of good size and bathroom is considered big for Japanese standard.
The service was also impeccable, when we wanted to go out late at nite to eat ramen, they offered us a ride, so thoughtful and nice.
Would not hesitate to stay there again, this time may be longer, so I can go and swin in the river.
