I stayed here for two nights in the middle of May, 2012 for a business trip, most likely in a standard-double room, although I can’t be sure since I didn’t make the booking and there really isn’t much difference in room size between some of the single and double room categories.
I arrived at the train station after taking the Shinkansen and it was only a short walk from there to the hotel, although it was still quite a challenge with a fair amount of luggage on hand.
The lobby was quite small compared to a usual hotel lobby but I understand that it’s actually brighter, larger and better appointed than is the case in a typical business hotel in Japan. I didn’t handle the check-in, as it was done by the Japanese host and so I couldn’t comment on the general attitude or whether English skills are good here. The front desk staff did appear nevertheless to be friendly and polite, as per usual in Japan.
The room was small but at least there was a double-sized bed included. However, there was really only room enough for the bed and a small sitting area where the sofa was located directly next to the wall for space-saving reasons. However, at least the sitting sofa was quite comfortably padded and roomy and wasn’t just a padded chair. I had a little difficulty placing my luggage case in the room and in the end just placed it next to the bed but it was a little difficult to move around once it was placed and also difficult to retrieve items from the case since there wasn’t enough room to open it proper. The bed was likely comfortable enough judging by how quickly I fell asleep but I was also quite tired during this trip so that may have played a role.
There was no view from the room, the window just opened to basically a back section of the hotel, which gave a view of the windows of other rooms but no view of the street. It did also mean that noise from the street wasn’t an issue.
The bathroom was small, as expected but there was a relatively large bathtub with the shower located on top. The toilet unit was a self-cleaning one and a good amount of toiletries were supplied.
The central location was a strong point, although on a business trip it was hard to take full advantage. The Nagoya TV tower and a subway station were nearby within walking distance and there were a good selection of shops and eateries underground. The entire Sakae area appears to be a higher-end shopping and business area and there was a department store nearby. There was also a ferris wheel beside a building in the area. The only issue related to location that arose during the stay was the confusion by the taxi driver with the other Hotel Trusty Nagoya. We were driven to the other Hotel Trusty in the city instead of this one and its name only differs in that ‘Sakae’ is not affixed towards the end. So, it may be necessary to specifically point out that this hotel is located in Sakae and close to the Nagoya TV tower to avoid confusion.
The public areas and facilities all appeared to be pleasant, entirely classically European in design, perhaps of Roman or Italian influence. The breakfast area was also similarly styled but it was also quite small and I’m not sure if seating would be an issue during busy times. The western breakfast set itself was quite alright without being excellent. Overall, the design of the hotel suggests an orientation towards tourism more than business travel. The lobby is likely larger and more grand than in typical business hotels in Japan.
The hotel overall provided a good and comfortable experience and it was also good value, especially in view of the central location.
NOTE: I have videos of the hotel room available through the link in my profile section.
