We stayed at this hotel last week of March as a family of 5, with 3 small kids. We booked two rooms and they gave us connecting rooms.

We really enjoyed the hotel: it is definitely up to 5 star standards in its offer: swimming pool, beach, multitude of restaurants.

We also booked some excursions through the concierge without any problem: Petra and the corals.

Staff does their utmost best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Breakfast was the only moment we felt organization was a little too much: you had to catch the attention of the waiter to get your coffee at peak times.

For the rest: highly recoomendable !

We had a wonderful time and some of the best food at the Intercontinental. The location is wonderful, so are their private beach and the pools.

The room was very nice and we had sunset view (towards Israel), while the other side of the hotel gets to see the not so pretty port of Aqaba. We had arrived before check-in time but got a room after a mere 30 min wait.

Service was outstanding and the whole complex was brand new and truly felt like a five star place.

The Lebanese restaurant serves very good food, has a great outside atmosphere and is price wise the same as the lesser posh places we had eaten in in Petra.

The walk to downtown Aqaba is a bit longer than the advertized 5 minutes, but doable, even with a 3 year old. It is just not a very nice walk as there is another hotel complex being built along the way and the sidewalk is such a mess that at times you have to walk on the street. There is quite some construction going on on that end of Aqaba, but was not disturbing during our stay.

Breakfast was not included in our booking, so instead we had some pastries from the Moevenpick bakery on the balcony. The beach was mainly occupied by Russian beach beauties.

The kiddie pool was nice and warm, the jakuzzi was big, but did not allow kids in.

The internet connection is 15JD ++ for 24h and was a bit easier to set up than the Moevenpick Petra, though a sign in the lobby says something about buying a scratch card at the reception, and the reception people were clueless (turns out it is a sign up from your laptop process) ... a 5 star should by now offer internet for free.

The pool bar & restaurant served very nice grub for lunch, but the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed at times, even though the tables were empty (as I found out later, they also had to serve drinks to the whole beach)

  • Liked — The food at the Lebanese restaurant, the beach, the pool
  • Disliked — Service at pool bar & restaurant / internet signup

The best choice for Aqaba, nice, clean, frendly staff, reaching
the standard of a Dubai 5* hotel. The only, only... full with
noisy Russians. If it is disturbing you, can go to the moon, or
to the presetly unknown place for them. Otherwise very nice,
and a real top hotel.

I stayed in this hotel for one night during my two week long trip around the Middle East with a friend of mine. I prebooked the hotel via the Intercontinental Website. Our room decription stated that our room would include:

Upon checking in, we were told that as there were two beds in the room, we would need to pay an additional fee of 15 USD. When we objected by saying that our rate already included two beds, the hotel member of staff say quite adamant that we would need to pay. Eventually he backtracked saying that we was doing us a favour and gave us a "nice pool view room with balcony and direct sea view". We corrected him by saying that he was not doing us a favour, as this is what he had booked anyway. He would not offer us an apology. I was also told that he would like to see a smile on my face, which I thought was inappropriate was to difuse this less than satisfactory checking in process.

When we arrived in the room, we noticed that the safety box was not working. We promptly reported it to the reception desk, firstly by phone and then in person. We were told that it would be fixed. We chased it up three times during our short stay and upon checking out, it still wasn't fixed. This meant that we had to carry our passports and valuables at all times.

During our stay we encountered some rude guests by the pool. We were approached by a local woman, who asked us in English, whether we wanted to ask her any questions about her culture, as as she put it " we were talking quitely to each other". For some reason, she was quite paranoid thinking that we were talking about her family and her Filipino nanny.

Our next part of the trip was taking a ferry crossing to Nuweiba in Egypt. We used the hotel's concierge services, who gave us completely misleading information as to when the ferry was leaving and how long in advance we had to be at the ferry terminal. It appeared that we would have been better off without relying on the information from the hotel concierge, as as result of his lack of knowledge, we had to check out of the hotel quite early and then spent over 7 hours at a ferry terminal in Aqaba port.

We stayed at the Intercontinetal in Aqaba for two nights in February 2008. I cannot speak too highly of this hotel. It was without doubt our best hotel experience in Jordan. Staff were courteous and efficient, the room was large, clean and comfortable, with very good facilities. We had breakfast and an evening meal throughout our stay. The service and quality and choice of food were excellent. I recommend this hotel without reservation.

My husband and I traveled for our anniversary to Aqaba and chose the newest hotel on the beach, the Intercon. We were, for the most part, not disappointed at our choice. The entrance is amazing and the natural stone tile will take your breath away. The ceilings are high and the large windows everywhere reveal a view of the beach, which the hotel is built on.
Our room was lovely, and included a decent-sized balcony facing the sea. The rooms were clean, except for one glaring problem... there were tiny bugs with wings similar to gnats inside our towels! We called the front desk and asked to be brought up new towels, but we were told that the new towels may also have these dead bugs in them due to the fact that the region was infested with them that season. I do not know if this is true, but still I find it somewhat disturbing that a person who spends money to stay at such a nice hotel would at least expect bug-free towels! We shook the towels out on the balcony and made do, but that is the one dark spot in our stay at this location.
The pools outside were gorgeous, and the beach was well-maintained. They scrape out the spiky poisonous creatures that crawl along the bottom every morning so the guests do not get injured swimming in the beach. The water is clear and the staff on the beach and in the hotel were friendly and helpful (except for the towel incident). The hotel partnered with a few touring companies who wandered up and down the beach asking if anyone would like to snorkel, ride a glass boat, etc. We chose to take a glass boat trip, snorkel in the Red Sea, and enjoy a lunch on the deck of the boat afterwards that was truly an amazing experience for a VERY reasonable price.
At night we traveled to an excellent sea food restaurant and enjoyed fresh sea food and a walk through the quaint town and the new mall just constructed.
The hotel food was decent, but since there are so many lovely little places to eat in the town, I would recommend trying to find some good sea food around town rather than eating at the hotel. We did eat breakfast at the hotel which was a buffet, but we found everything to be well-prepared and high quality.
Overall our experience was memorable and enjoyable and we would definitely return, hopefully when the gnats have been exterminated!

I spent 2 nights in Aqaba at this excellent hotel in a room on the 3rd floor with a view of the Red Sea and Eilat beyond. The hotel is located right in the middle of the action on the beach – it’s probably the most western in location of the hotels on the beach as you look towards the Israeli border, but shopping, restaurants and the town’s waterfront promenade are all within a stroll.

One cautionary note, however: it is adjacent to the giant Saraya development, which means you’ll be aware of construction during the day. I had full view of this from my room which was on the west-facing side of the hotel. (The glittering lights of Eilat at night more than made up for the construction view during the day.)

The room was a good size, but not overly generous. It included a workdesk with wired internet (12JD per day), lounge chair with ottoman and a dresser-mounted LCD television. The bathroom was beautiful, with combination shower/tub (with curtain), toilet and bidet.

Service was excellent - with a smile and a greeting from everyone I met - and it was obvious that they are comfortable working with foreign clientele.

There are several restaurant choices at the hotel, including a coffee bar, steakhouse, Lebanese and casual pool bar, though I didn’t have a chance to try any of them. The pool area is expansive!

For scuba divers, there’s a convenient shuttle to the dive centers to the south – about 15km away. In very limited time, I was able to dive the aquarium site right off the beach with the Royal Diving Center. Visibility was excellent (~100 feet) and the fish plentiful and a wide range of corals. I’ve never seen so many lion fish in one spot in my 22 years of diving. Service at this dive shop was excellent – I would recommend them highly.

Currently, this hotel is at the top of the list in terms of accommodations in Aqaba. There is a lot of construction going on, however, with many more hotel rooms on the way - so in a few years it will be just one of many deluxe options in the area.
