“far better than expected”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2007

Having read the most recent reviews (of April and early May 2007) I expected the worst when I arrived in Aqaba. I had booked 4 nights in Coral Bay with a PADI Open Water Course through a local travel agent in Amman before I read those reviews. I must say that I was not disappointed at all. The room I got was nice, clean, excellent bed, good view, quiet. Only the TV programme was pretty limited. The service in the hotel was excellent, very friendly staff who tried their best (of course not as professional as in a five star but always helpful). Breakfast was ok and dinner a bit better than that (especially deserts). The hotel has a decent pool and access to th sea, there are plenty of sun beds free of charge. The hotel has a regular and cheap shuttle bus service to the city of Aqaba, though the last lift from there to the hotel is 10 p.m. which is far too early (the hotel is some 20 km outside Aqaba in the middle of nowhere). in any case, I can recommend the hotel especially for those going for a diving course or for quiet relaxation, otherwise it might be a bit boring. Through the local travel agent booking I got good value for money (about 30 € per night) - the agent is Royal Tours in Amman next to 7th Circle.

Last week we stayed at the Coral Bay hotel in Aqaba.
We were very disappointed by the hotel. Apparently the hotel was very nice when it opened 2 years ago but since then it looks like neither repairs had been made nor maintenance been done.
We paid 85 JD for 2 persons, Half Board.
- The room was of medium size but showed already its age. (black marks on the walls, broken furniture, …).
Our room was close to the pool but the windows had no light curtains ie you could not open the strong curtains during the day while in the room. The washroom was poor.
- On the beach you can get cushions for the deckchairs, but these cushions were never cleaned and instead of white/blue they were brown/blue.
Towels were also available but you had to search hard to find them (nobody told us about it and it was written nowhere that you can get them). What is sad about these towels is that they were apparently not cleaned as frequently as you would expect. We saw how they did reuse them (just letting them dry) and giving the same towel to another person in the afternoon.
- The ladders to go into the pool had already some steps missing and if you did not pay attention you could injure yourself because there were screws sticking out.
- The beach bar offered poor plates and was very slow: a small plate of french fries for 3 JD, the Caesar salad with 5 pieces of salad swimming in greasy sauce and some cheese on top of it, was also very small. You could also get 2 scoops of ice cream for 4 JD!
- The breakfast was also poor without any fresh fruit and a poor choice.
- The buffet diner was average: the starters were correct, the main dishes were good but the deserts were poor and not sufficient (sometimes it looked as if there was one cake or pudding for around 30 people and if that was not sufficient another pudding was taken out of the deepfreezer and was still frozen).
The chairs inside the restaurant did also need some cleaning.
April is high season in Jordan but there were only about 30 people in the hotel when we were there (with a capacity of 120). This also tells something.
In conclusion I would say that this hotel is not worth its price. It's supposed to be a luxury hotel but the details you expect in such an hotel are not there.
There is a big lack of professionalism.
(In Petra in the Crown Plaza resort we paid less (75JD) and it was a great hotel with very good service)

I would strongly recommend to take a hotel in Aqaba and to go to the nice beach of the hotel during the day. Plenty of people are doing that.

My boyfriend and I booked a holiday to Jordan choosing to travel around the most popular sites ( Petra, Wadi Rum and Dead sea) and finish the trip with some diving. The tour company suggested Coral Bay as it was part of The Royal Diving club, so we went ahead and booked 4 nights. After spending the previous nights in Movenpicks we knew that we were slightly downgrading but the promise of being somewhere relaxed with its own private beach, we were rather excited. What a dissapointment and shambles it turned out to be. The room was very dated as were the facilties, Breakfast was poor with little choice and not even an offer of fruit in the morning, but by far the worst experience was trying to make a simple order at the beach bar. With only a few items on the meuu, even ordering a coke turned out to be difficult. There were lots of staff, in fact to many, they just had no idea what they were doing, and again the food was terrible. In the end, instead of getting angry and fed up i just had to laugh as i felt i was in the Jordanian Faulty Towers. The staff were friendly, well thats not exactly true, there was a very rude russian member of staff that blatently didnt want to be there and could 'nt manage a smile the whole time we were there. All in all it was a terrible experiance and unfortunatley does not represent the warm and wonderful hospitality we received elsewhere on our trip. We would not go back, nor would we recommend it to anyone else.

Recently stayed at the hotel! The rooms with TV and air conditioning are beautiful and the view from your terras/balcony is stunning (view over the Red Sea, you'll see Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia).
We visited the hotel (two women, 28 and 53 years old, dressed and behaved very decent!). We were watched all day (not in a nice way), the staff tried to con us several times (with change from our drinks, connecting telephone not on our request but we had to pay for it, the beach boy wanted money for the beds though the beds were included, a waiter in my mum's room looking for stuff, etc).
Maybe a beautiful hotel, but we would defenately not recommend it to women travelling/staying without husbands. We did not feel safe nor comfortable.

Recently stayed at the hotel, very nice! Being in quite surroundings and beautiful luxuriously appointed rooms with TV and air conditioning it really is the ideal family, couples vacation. Part of the hotel is the royal diving center. Beautiful corals in the sea, a must see! The hotel offers watersport possibilities such as Jet Ski, WaterSkiing and so on..
Beach very clean, service good, restaurants, bars with a lot to offer. Whether you choose to go diving or enjoy the watersports possibilities or you simply relax and enjoy the beach with a cool cocktail at the beach bar, you will have a nice time at this hotel. Sure to see us next year when we visit again!

We have been in Jordan , Coral bay hotel , last year in May . We are going there again this June /July. It is very small, quiet hotel , close to beach. It is possible to snorchle and dive there . Weather - little windy , but warm. People were friendly; rooms were small , but nice furnished and clean . I can recommend this hotel :)

This hotel opened at the Royal Diving Centre in Feb 05. It's about 16km outside of Aqaba but a taxi journey costs you pence if you want to get into town (they also have a shuttle bus service).

The hotel makes up for being out of town by having a fantastic beach (no pollution unlike those in town) and reef which is great for novice snokellers or experienced divers. Has it's own restaurant, bar, beach club, shop so plenty to keep you fed and watered even out of town.

Would recommend it if you want to experience some clean air/sea, good facilities and like to swim.
