“Beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

We did an 8 day tour of Jordan. This was a post trip after our 14 day tour of Egypt.

This was a beautiful area. Very unexpected. So much of the land is desert.

“Average beach for families with little budget”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2014

Beach is ok, is not fancy, but adequate, small shops serve drinks there with Shisha, Sit on water side directly, there are a lot of glass boats around to watch red sea sea life.

“As a place to observe local culture it's Excellent. As a beach its a dump. For Western Women it can be intimidating.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

As someone has quite correctly commented this is very much a beach for the Jordanian families and it's an absolute delight to see the family groups relaxing at the seaside. The place is packed - loads of local traders / food / music and a real happy Jordanian vibe. So on that level it really does have merit in visiting.

As a "beach" there is no denying its pretty poor - it has the basic requirements of the sea, sun and sand. There is no denying it's litter strewn and there is no denying the sand isn't great, it's narrow and there isn't much room. (Just by calling it a local beach does not make these facts disappear).

We have traveled pretty extensively around the Middle East and other Islamic states and it is sad to note that there is a high level of, for want of better terms Intimidation, hatred and nastiness. Malaysia, Oman, Egypt, Turkey.... nowhere have we encountered such an undercurrent of latent dislike as at this place. The young lads shout things at you (They assume you know no Arabic - unfortunately I know some) the women stare and stare in a nasty way. The older men just leer.... No - we were not in bathing trunks and Bikinis - were in our late 40s after all ! We were just walking by. My wife conservatively dressed - scarf around her neck etc....as we try hard to respect local sensitivities. The photograph of the Jordanian Royal Family in McDonalds shows female Royals in a more liberal form of attire ! This is the sort of dumb religious hatred which is not tolerated in many places so really to excuse it in a town which outwardly markets it's self as a tourist resort is to add credence to this form of dumb intolerance.

So go - have a look - enjoy the ambiance for a while and try and ignore the bigots.

“Met new people”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

I felt great, I met new interesting people, talked with the locals, find out some of theyr traditions. I am a young person and i like crowded places. Was so much action going around, not quite at all. You should go just if you find entertaining to met locals and have fun with them.
