Was suggested to go here by a local guide. The food was jordanian cuisine, very good and not too expensive. Dinner for two was about 25 JD with starters. The ayres (also called meat pancakes) and the hummus was quite good. The interiors look a bit shabby, however, it's possible to dine on an outside balcony, which we found very nice and cosy. Overall very satisfied and would go there again.

Hayat Zaman is charming but a little hard to find. It is on the second floor, and well marked from the main street, but the entrance is on a side street. You walk past friendly men who nod you upstairs, following walls hung with bedouin rugs and camel packs. Ask to eat outside if possible. The view of Aqaba from the little balconies, each filled with a bedouin style couch is a nice change. Service is leisurely but attentive. Even though the menu is improbably long, ( their version of beef stroganoff, grilled shrimps with mint, kufta, grilled pigeon, even steaks and burgers), everything is tasty even if it's occasionally tough or dry. Go for the stuff that doesn't require precision cooking and you'll be happy. The traditional arabic cooking - mezze (hummus, salads, maklouba, arabic salad, etc) kebabs, kufta, arreyas, saidiya, are good. They specialize in dishes cooked in a clay pot - but be hungry or prepared to a doggie bag home because they are good but quite filling featuring a potatoes and/or rice. My favorites are the pigeon, the mezze, the lamb pieces and the imaginative hot h'or doeuvres like artichokes hearts stuffed with chicken and cheese. My friend had grilled shrimps and they came with their heads on along with a box of tissues. Messy but tasty. Her husband had asparagus soup and beef stroganoff which he quite liked. The waiter will bring everyone at the table a bowl of soup, a chicken broth with rice or sometimes orzo in it and pickled vegetables for starters. No alcohol. If you are eating there during Ramadan, the Ifhtar buffet is very good.

After reading about this good restaurant here on Tripadvisor we (4 persons) decided to go to Hayat Zaman. 1 ordered beef stroganof - it was cold and the meat was very tough. 1 ordered after recommadation a dish with slices of meat in the buttom and tomatoes on the top - its was minced meat!! I changed with my husbond (he eated mine, but did not like it) - and got his. He did not know, what is was, when he ordered. But it was big minced meat balls in a sort of soup, which was not tasty at all. Okay, the waiter came to ask, if we liked the food - and offered me something else. I ordered mix grill instead - but most of it was minced meat!!! The last person ordered lamb chops - and little dry, but OK.
We got a soda each and payed JD 35 - a little more than 50 USD.
Even we got a free cup of soup each ( did not taste of anything) a free tea after the meal - it was not worth it at all.
The owner of this restaurant has a little place very close to the lokal beach, where we the day before had bought a sharwarma with chicken for only 1 JD - and a glass off fresh pressed orange juice for 1,5 JD. The name was - don't remember exactly - Hamman Dune. It was very good and much better than on this restaurant.
