No expense was spared to create a beautifully landscaped hotel grounds, with beautiful pools, lawn areas, and interconnecting swimming canals between pools. A lovely concept and well executed. Rooms are a little on the dark and boring side, but perfectly adequate otherwise. Distances can be very long - like as much as 15 minute walk from the room to the lobby.

Food is generally good, catering to a wide array of clientele and age groups. The dinner buffet is over-priced for the quality and variety of food, accompanied by loud music entertainment. This is not a hotel for business people, so do keep that in mind.

It is quite a distance from the city of Aqaba, so if your intent is to take advantage of restaurants and duty free shopping in Aqaba it requires some advance planning when staying in Tala Bay. The reception staff were very business like almost to the point of being rudely so. A number of the staff at the front desk are foreign workers in Jordan, and their English and or Arabic is only just adequate. This is a source of some frustration for the guest particularly when making a request or filing a report about a toilet that did not operate properly as we were trying to do.

Internet in the rooms was spotty, again there was a communication problem with the front desk staff.

Incredible place, totally five star plus. Fantastic pools, a great beach. Snorkelling is very good but lifeguards get stroppy if you go outside designated swimming area.
Food is very good - excellent middle eastern fare plus the usual international selection. Free soft drink minibar is a nice touch - drinks in the hotel are hugely expensive.

Weird sense of detachment from reality - you could be anywhere. Wandering around the Tala Bay area it feels more like south of Spain than Middle East. Aqaba itself is a fifteen minute drive and is more of a real place.

If you like the large pools you need to go there. Unbelievable ! The hotel is very well decorated, the rooms are top with separated room for the children and a small balcony. I have to say this is very close from being perfect. You could also have a swim in the red sea (not that cold in the middle of winter).
Just a negative point for the food at the buffet which was just average compared to other in the same category?

The food was good, with healthy and vegetarian options. The pools were great, one heated to 28 C, one jacuzzi and two unheated. The staff was friendly and the rooms were very clean.
This is a secluded part of the world with limited connections to the outside world. The hotel is in a gated community with desert all around. And the city, about twenty minutes away, is not worth a visit as far as I could tell. So before you leave you had better check that the activities at the hotel (and excursions to Petra och the Dead Sea) are enough for you.
There is a gym inside the hotel, but it is small and confined with just a stair master, a treadmill and some weights. The staff will try to activate you by suggesting volleyball, for instance, which was fun. There is also a fitness instructor who had classes three or four times every day at the hotel. I took one of the aerobic classes and it was very good.
The alcohol is devastatingly expensive, you'll pay 60 USD for a bottle of wine and the hotel does not allow you to bring neither food nor drinks from outside. They did not seem to be very strict on that, though. You might want to take advantage of the happy hour in the bar next to the lobby, where two drinks come for the price of one between 17.00 and 19.00.
A couple of things to think about - you cannot drink the tap water, unless you boil it. Usually, when in a country like Jordan, I wouldn't eat anything that wasn't cooked or fried, but at this hotel we ate everything from sushi to salad. I noticed that they had a high standard of food preparation (not to mention the presentation that were statues of lard - true - or ice).
Of course I worry about the workload of the staff, because I can't help it. The women of Jordan are not a workforce to be counted on, for traditional reasons, so most of the women at the hotel were from Asia. They seemed to have long workdays and we talked to them about it, but they seemed happy. My guess is that they are away from their families, and that they work way too hard and way too much, but I hope that they at least are paid reasonably well.
As we were there in the winter, the temperature was not fantastic, so the unheated pools were too cold. The Red Sea beach, which is connected to the hotel, was clean and the sea was reasonably warm. However the red flag was up, so most guests stayed away from the sea.

Room Tip: If you are a family you can ask for connected rooms. We got rooms facing away from the sea, and ov...

The hotel is in an area where there is nothing besides resorts, so you have to do everything inside the hotel. Is a family resort for holidays. I went there to use the heated pools and jacuzzi since it was winter but all of them weren t at a temperature enough to stay more than 30 seconds, so it was a shame since we couldn enjoy the hotel facilities as we would have like to, so we check out early than we expected to.
The breakfast had a great variety but anything was even good or to stand out, it was fresh but very average.
The room was clean, but the shower was clogged, so it was kind of disgusting, and also therewasn t a good smell at the room.
There could have been bath robes in the room,

We stayed at Mövenpick Tala Bay, Aqaba for a family get away during Christmas and new year.
The weather is winter in Jordan, but when we are coming from the north this is a nice change.
Good days with sun it is as Danish summer during the day, overcast days it was a bit colder, and the heated pool was a big plus.
The hotel is really nice, we had a family room facing the ocean, but any room facing the ocean or pool seems good.
We had halfboard - and it was really nice buffet - the arabic food is really good, and they had a lot of varieties. They also had all sorts of western food every day. We really loved the food, but the only down side is that there was little food for children - a simple pasta or pizza - but we managed with our picky son anyway - breakfast and lunch fantastic also for him.
The beach is ok, snorkeling is not spectacular if you have done so in Sharm El Sheik, but there are a few rocks in front of the hotel, and we saw maybe 50 kinds of fish, and both clown fish and dragon fish, and a small moray eel just 15 m from the beach. There are better snorkeling 1 km towards Aqaba.
Pool area is beautiful, and there is a nice lunch restaurant in the middle with nice lounge furnitures.
The hotel has a good international mix of guests and when we visited all nationalities behaved civilized and well :-)
Wine :-) Well it is a bit high priced in Jordan, and I did not try a lot. But I did actually get e very good Jordanian white wine. The hotel also had a very small selection of wines, also good ones - a Chablis and a Chateauneuf du Pape. I missed a good Pinot from burgundy on the list.
The fruit juices they make are excellent!
Service here is extremely helpful and pleasant, all staff are really good and very nice!
Overall we are very positive with our visit - it is definitely a hotel we will recommend to friends - and return to again.
