I actually won a free microlight flight in Wadi Rum, so took another friend with me who paid for his own flight. Prices were very reasonable. Really incredible way to see Wadi Rum - none of the discomfort of camel rides and actually very tranquil. Take off and landing weren't at all scary. What made it even better was that the pilot obviously loved his job and was a very good guide of the land we were passing over. He stopped the engine for a while so we could just glide, looking down over rock formations. In half an hour you can see more of Wadi Rum than a day's driving around in a jeep. Would certainly recommend to more friends.

Yesterday we started very early in the morning from Aqaba to watch the sunrise over Wadi Rum from a small hot air balloon. The view was fantastic. We can warmly recommend this trip organized by Royal Aerosports Club of Jordan. The crew, especially Khaled Shishani who is the balloon driver was very friendly and polite. All our questions were answered in the small basket of the balloon. After the balloon tour, which took approximately 1 hour, we were offered tea and coffee and some sweets. As it was the first time for us we went by balloon we were a little bit scared at the beginning. But all in all ballooning is fantastic!

My husband and I both went up in microlight planes and flew for nearly 2 hours over the Wadi Rum area. It was just simply magnificent. I just do not have enough words to describe just how wonderful the experience was. I have a fear of heights so was very unsure but it felt like the plane was standing still and the earth was moving slowly underneath. It was quite misty when we took of and the mountains and desert looked ethereal. We flew over the camel racing track, over camps, mountains, over camels through canyons and saw the sea at Aqaba. (and saw a Palace in the desert). We were even allowed to fly our planes. My pilot, Terry was so informative and helpful I just cannot thank him enough. I am sorry that I did not get the name of the other pilot.
The one problem is that the Aero cub does not seem to reply to e-mails and we were lucky that our Rep. Natasha was able to contact them direct to book in. You need permission to fly and they need your passport etc.
This really is an experience not to be missed. A fantastic way to see the desert.
