“Very good next to beach and snorkling”
Reviewed May 1, 2011

Nice hotel with swimming pool and good restaurant. Breakfast is very poor but the price for the room is not expensive. Really nice place to stay at the end of a trip in Jordan. You need a taxi to go to the centre of Aqaba but you are directly at the beach and at one of the best diving & snorkeling place which is really convenient. We recommend this hotel, also for family with kids and teenagers.

The hotel is not too bad in itself. It's got a pool, nice communal areas, a roof top with sea and sunset views, decent rooms with shower, hot water, and toilets. We paid 20 JD for one night. This included breakfast.
To rent a mask costs 3 JD, same for the fins, and a wet suits rental costs 6 JD.
The hotel is located at South Beach, near the Saudi border, and across a public beach where ladies can wear bikinis. It's very close to the Japanese Gardens where snorkeling is apparently very beautiful. A taxi from there to Aqaba city center costs 5 JD.
The bad thing is the staff, especially one guy with a bald head which had very bad manners, was arrogant and really rude. Very bad attitude that ruins the whole experience.

We spend 3 nights in this hotel. We shared a room with friends. The room wasn't clean. The shower was hot, but the bathroom also wasn't very clean. Breakfast was very poor and the coffee was cold. The staff wasn't friendly at all. The location isn't bad, next to the beach and a 10 minute drive from the city center. This is a very cheap option (we payed just 37JD per night for a family room), but don't expect a friendly, clean hotel.

We strongly advise females travelling alone or together NOT to stay here. We got significant hassle from the manager. Having chatted (briefly) to us once on our first day he was under the impression we were interested in him and got exceedingly offended when we spoke to other people. He not only gave us hassle but kept calling us over for 'chats' and would sit opposite us/behind us watching us. On the morning we were due to cross back over to Israel he got one of his staff to tell us the border was closed (needless to say we ignored this and unsurprisingly it wasn't). We heard rumours of him behaving in a similar/worse manner to other women and were warned by people working in neighbouring hotels to watch out for him. The other staff at the hotel were generally helpful and nice but either seemed a bit helpless of the situation or were mildly amused by his behaviour and didn't do anything to intervene. Overall it was quite intimidating and we ended up spending the last evening in the hotel next door (Darna) to avoid him. This was the only hassle we got in Jordan and slightly tainted the stay in Aqaba.

NB: The place we are referring to is now called the bedouin garden village (from the photos on this site it looks like it was once called bedouin moon village)

We had a room with double bed (also a single bed in there), private bathroom and air con. I can't recall exactly how much we paid for the room but we thought that it was not bad value for money. However, it looked a little tired on the inside and could have done with a lick of paint. The best thing about the place is the outside space, it has a fairly pleasant pool and seating area.

Price includes a decent breakfast, flat bread, jam, butter, cheese (fresh & processed), egg, and a cup of tea or coffee. Unfortunately most other things seemed overpriced. Bottle of water 1JD, can of sprite 1JD and best of all snorkel, mask and fins 5JD per day! Complete rip off. Also the staff were very lackluster. The food and staff were much better at the Bedouin Moon Village over the road (I don't know what their rooms are like though).

The hotels in this area are very isolated as you are at least 10km from downtown Aqaba. If you've already dived / snorkeled in the Red Sea then I would give Aqaba a miss as there is not much here that's different to anywhere else (apart from the desolation!) and the beach isn't particulaly nice either. We much prefered Dahab just over the boarder in Egypt.
